First of all, the beach: On many review sites you read that women walking alone feel uncomfortable and 'followed' by vendors. Personally, I can only say: No, that's not true. I have rarely felt so safe. The beach is long and really beautiful. Due to the weather/wind, wood and other things often wash up at low tide. Nothing compared to Thailand or Bali. But almost every 'vendor' tries to keep his section clean as best he can and the non-German garbage collectors play along and collect it. Yes, the sellers of clothing, coconuts and tuk tuk drivers (all completely manageable, there are only a few) speak to the guests on the beach. Because it is very wide, there is no other way to draw attention to their micro-shop/tuk tuk. In the short period WHERE guests are on the beach, they try to sell, because that is what they live off of. Sri Lanka is poor and the small hut or rope with goods is often the only source of income. There are only a few hotels on the beach, so there aren't many guests. If you don't like that, India/Sri Lanka isn't the right place for you. Or just stay by the pool. There are two annoying, persistent salespeople, but the rest are incredibly nice and if you say no in a friendly way, you'll be left alone in a friendly way. There are also great bargains in the 'shops' if you negotiate well. It's definitely worth looking around. And no, there are no loungers on the sand belonging to the hotel, as the section of beach doesn't belong to the hotel. So it's forbidden. But if you walk a bit, you'll find loungers, so everything's fine. Hotel: Yes, you can't deny that some of the room interiors are very old. Especially if you're picky (I am). So I was in a slightly bad mood at first and wrote to the management in Germany. But after 2 days of getting used to it, it almost doesn't matter. And the MGMT has reacted and is working as quickly as possible to get everything sorted out. The treatments are so relaxing, yoga & meditation are great (even for beginners like me), the Ayurvedic food is delicious, even if you can't stand the sight of curry on the fourth day :). You can always go to the second restaurant. And I wasn't there to 'gorge yourself'. How you accept and use the treatment is up to you, you can be dogmatic, but you don't have to. If you want it straight and without any other options, you should perhaps book a small house. If you want to have a drink somewhere else, the Maharaja beach bar next to the hotel is perfect. For excursions into the surrounding area, there are enough tuk tuk drivers who can then get you a car (driver Bob, for example, speaks excellent German and is a great help). All in all: I will definitely go there again.

Background to the review: Sri Lanka got its independence more or less same time as Singapore. Since then, nationalists came into power (and went), decided to get rid of the English language in favour of their Singalese language (Singapore embraced English because they knew how important a common business language is), a civil war came and thirty years later went, and well, Sri lanka is what we have today. A beautiful country, amazing people, horrendous diesel pollution and excellent food! Lanka Princess is an excellent Ayurvedic hotel specifically tailored to German speakers. This is an important point. While I was there, some of the hotel people kept talking to me in German. In Sri Lanka! Well, they try to make German speakers feel at home, and they do succeed. I am not a German speaker so it was a surprise for me. The hotel is a perfect Ayurvedic environment where a team of experts look after you and propose various treatments to help you get over whatever western medicine hasn't or didn't manage well. To this end, it does a very good job. There are two restaurants; the one on the left of the pool/pond, is for the Ayurvedic patients and the one on the right, is normal Sri Lankan food. They both offer excellent food. And as much as you want. And lots and lots of excellent fruit! Yummy! The rooms are big, comfortable (A/C included of course) and all of them look towards the pool. There is a garden area, a pool with a pool bar. Upon exiting the garden, the sea is right there for you to enjoy(if you can avoid the irritating beach boys that bug patrons every time they go to the beach). Pricing is appropriate for the type of luxury hotel, and depends on the time of the year. It is managed by people in Berlin, Germany. The only problems I have had were language specific; one day I requested a taxi for the next day at 8:30am, and although the lady at reception said "of course" and "yes", next morning there was no car and no one knew anything about it! By the time the taxi was arranged, I arrived late at my meeting. The following day, I requested something else and another lady at reception again said "of course" and "yes" but nothing arrived for me. The management needs to train its staff better not to say "yes" unless the staff understands fully what the client wants! This has to do with Sri Lanka and the English language and its past. Sri Lankans want to be helpful and say "yes" by default, even though they don't fully understand; they shouldn't. Apart from that issue, the stay was perfect.

They promis a lot, like different pillows and mattresses, but they have none. Had to put 3 comforters over mattress to make it a bit softer.ayurvedic treatments are short, and not all therapists are well trained.hotel has a very rigid atmosphere,no flowers,no charm, no feel of sri Lanka, could be in Germany. My room had no hot water,I complained for 3 days, then had water for one day. Don't believe everything you read. There are so many better places in Sri Lanka, with better service. The owner is an accountant in Germany, and and knows nothing about the hospitality industry. Worse vacation ever

I went there for Ayurveda. Most of the guests were German, as the hotel was run by a German. They said it was their first time staying here from Japan, but they were very polite and friendly. The room was very spacious, and there was still plenty of room for two wooden decks on the veranda. You could see the ocean through the palm trees from the room, and the sound of the waves was soothing. The Ayurveda staff were very accommodating, even though our stay was short, and we were able to refresh ourselves. The food was delicious! We also enjoyed Ayurvedic food. There was a security guard on duty 24 hours a day checking the exit from the hotel to the beach. The beach was very beautiful, and we took a walk every morning and evening during our stay. The sunset was especially beautiful. It was the southwest monsoon season, but we were blessed with good weather and it was a great holiday.

One of the niceset places in the area. The food is delicious, the Ayurveda centre very clean and professional. The shady garden is perfect for a relaxing afternoon sipping tea on a comfortable sun bed. What I like most are the pleasant and hardworking staff members that are always very helpful and accommodating. Loved evening walks along the beach and sitting at one of the little bars whist watching the sun disappear in the Indian Ocean. Have an arrack and buy some freshly roasted Sri Lankan peanuts from the kind old man on the bike - a perfect apèro on the beach! The hotel infrastructure is a bit dated but well looked after and I am looking forward to staying here again this November!

Top Ayurveda hotel with top medical care, food was excellent, service as you would expect (very friendly and helpful) - very good value for money. The location is interesting - right on the Bentota River and yet by the sea. You can take wonderful long walks by the sea. Only 1 hour by train to Galle (costs CHF -.80), an old Portuguese fortress with beautiful boutiques and great restaurants. In Sri Lanka, the CHF is worth at least 5-8 times more.
