Me and my partner stayed here for our 7 year anniversary and we paid a considerable amount to stay here for 2 nights, there was cheaper options but this one stood out to us due to the recent modernisation as was formerly Jurys Inn, the reviews at the time of booking persuaded us but also the location was ideal with a tram stop just outside. First impressions were great, the person checking us in was friendly and it certainly looked very luxurious in the lobby area. We were situated on the 8th floor and as soon as we came out of the lift there was a very strong curry smell which persisted throughout our stay. The room interior also looked very nice although we were given a room with 2 double beds which wasn’t needed. The windows could be doing with a good clean as there was a lot of black marks around the window putty. Bathroom was beautifully designed, I was shocked to see The White Company brand for the soap, body wash and shampoo but later to discover they had been watered down. When I went to have a shower, the shower head was disgusting and I certainly don’t think it had been cleaned in a long time as the water did not come out of all holes and there was black marks around the rubber, not sure if this was mould. Luckily there was 2 shower heads so I had used the main one attached to the ceiling which looked clean. When we returned back to the room on our first night it was scorching hot so we went to put on the air conditioning however this was not working. We had noticed that the radiator in the bathroom was constantly on and no way of turning this off which of course contributed to the heat. We called reception to see if someone could assist and the receptionist seemed like he couldn’t be bothered, (we called at about 10:30pm so not too late) and said the best thing I could do would be to turn it off as there was a fault with the system. We were not made aware of this upon check in. The second evening while getting ready to go out for a meal, my partner went to try the air con again and still nothing so he went down to reception who said they would contact maintenance however could not get hold of them. He questioned the receptionist saying we called on our first night to be told to turn it off as there was a fault, this receptionist reassured us that there there was not a fault with the system. As they couldn’t get hold of maintenance they issued us with a fan. When someone knocked onto our door, the lady had a poor attitude and was like you’ve requested a fan, I said thank you and she just walked off, no pleasantry or apology. We were thankful to have a breeze however due to how hot our room was we had to leave it on during the night and it was quite loud. Just before writing this review I checked the hotels reviews again and it seems that other people during our stay faced the same issues. I may return sometime in the future but this wouldn’t be as a first choice.
