I stayed here for one night when I had travelled to Birmingham for a conference. I booked a Premier Plus room as I wanted to keep my drinks for the following day cool and I wanted air conditioning. I also wanted the better wi-fi so I could get some work done in the evening. Unfortunately the fridge did not work at all, in fact it was warm. I raised this with reception and they looked at it, but could not fix it. There was no one available to fix the fridge during my stay. I requested a partial refund, as the additional facilities that I had paid for were not working, but I was informed that the ability to refund customers has been removed from hotels and refunds can only be issued by head office. Someone had set the TV in my room to automatically switch on in the night. This went off twice during the night, leading to a very disturbed night's sleep. In the morning, I tried to report this issue when I checked out, but as was the case at check in, the reception was unmanned. At breakfast it became clear that the hotel was seriously short staffed. The gentleman who had tried to fix my fridge at 10pm was back on shift at 7am. He was expected to man the reception desk, as well as serving in the restaurant.
