When traveling, my partner and I always try to stay at local hotels, owned by local people, instead of the large chain hotels from America and Europe. The De'Mar Hotel in Bishkek is a WONDERFUL hotel. It is within walking distance to Osh Market, the Kyrgyzstan Philharmonic, historic and civic sites, the university and restaurants. Best of all are the staff members. The manager and associate manager are incredibly wonderful people, and all of the staff are kind and helpful. They arranged one day trip to Burana Tower for us with Nomads Yurt (another great local entrepreneurial tour company), but for the second day trip to Ala Archa National Park, the hotel manager (Estemesov Emilbek) took us himself and hiked with us. He also took us to a fantastic local restaurant afterwards with delicious local Kyrgyz food. If you want a good hotel, with great service, where you can support local people, then stay at the De'Mar Hotel. The manager and associate manager speak English. The main language in Kyrgyzstan is Russian. If you use a translation app on your phone you'll be fine. The other staff members, who only speak Russian, are more than happy to use the translation app on phones. Breakfast at the hotel is good and they offer laundry service at the front desk.
