The hotel is a very grand hotel, but it has lots of of its splendour and needs a refresh. We arrived late in the evening and were met by a very helpful receptionist, who was very welcoming and professional. The reception area is by far the grandest part of the hotel. We had a standard lake view room on the third floor. The view from the balcony was nothing short of spectacular, but the room was a little on the small side. The bed was very comfortable, there were plenty of pillows, and two single duvets rather than one double duvet. Given the temperature outside, two single duvets were much better than one double duvet. The bathroom was well laid out with plenty of quality towels, toiletries etc. Both the room and the bathroom were spotlessly clean, and the rooms were cleaned every day. Breakfast was a large buffet, but the breakfast room was not directly accessible from the lift, requiring a short walk from the lift and three short flights of steps. The breakfast buffet had a good choice, with a small selection of hot (warm) food from a menu. The menu also offered different coffees other than the stewed coffee on a hot plate. The waiters and waitresses in the breakfast restaurant were a little hit and miss as regards quality. Some you could ask once and the order would be brought complete a few minutes later; others you could tell them what you wanted and then hope for the best. A couple of waiters in particular always seemed to be on a different planet. This hotel advertises and prices itself as a luxury hotel. It is not a luxury hotel. It is comfortable, but there is no air conditioning in the rooms, some facilities at the hotel appeared to be run for the convenience of the hotel and not its guests, such as the bar by the lake which closed around 9.00pm and the inability to get anything other than soft drinks in the lounge after 10.00pm and the swimming pool closing at 6.00pm. Car parking is another issue. Firstly it is chargeable, and secondly, unless you are lucky it is at another hotel, as parking on the hotel’s own site is very limited. You also need to be aware of housekeeping, who will be trying to clean your room at 8.00am in the morning! Around the rest of the hotel there are areas which need a good clean and areas which need a redecoration to deal with the peeling paint. I would say that this is a nice hotel but overpriced.
