Yes, unbelievable . . . Don’t be fooled by the Airport Inn web site photo gallery. I posted a few photos so you can see for yourself. The desk clerk phoned housekeeping to see if my room was ready. I was told that I would find the door to my room slightly ajar because it had just been cleaned (??). I entered the heavily worn room and saw that there were two queen beds. My reservation was for a room with one king but I didn’t have time to address this because I was having dinner with friends who had arrived to pick me up. When I returned, the electric lock would not function with my key card so I walked to the front desk. The clerk told me that because of cold weather there had been problems with some of the lock mechanisms and she called the maintenance person. I met him at the room door and he told me that there had been a lightning strike that had affected some of the door locks . . . (oh, really?) This was a second floor room (#215), that had a sliding glass window facing the walkway which he immediately proceeded to easily remove and then he reached in to open the door as though he had done this a hundred times. Inside the door we saw that the lock mechanism batteries were hanging from wires. He made no attempt to correct this so I asked him how I would be able to come and go. He asked if I was staying another night and when I said no, he said “I don’t blame you, this place is a mess” (no kidding!). I soon discovered that the TV remote control didn’t work so the clerk brought up new batteries. When I told her that the room situation was unacceptable, she was apologetic and went into a sad story about how difficult it had been for the staff to function with the owner away for several months leaving them with no resources, support or paychecks. In other words, she was the victim. She told me several times that she would refund $20 from my credit card payment which did not happen. The toilet ran constantly, there were glue splotches and marks all over the bathroom door and holes in the wall above the bathroom light switch. The curtains had stain blotches all over them and there were spots of missing paint on the walls. One bath towel had a large hole in it. The coffee machine was there with no vessel or coffee. I was afraid to look closer. The bedding did look clean so I tried to sleep. After about an hour the TV came on all by itself! I got up and unplugged it. I thought, this kind of stuff only happens in movies. I’ve traveled in what we used to call “Third World” countries and it was better than this. STAY AWAY!!! You can find a much better hotel and still get a reasonable room rate.
