Firstly I don't normally submit reviews. I think everyone's experience is subjective based on where you've travelled before and what your expectations are. I also think it only fair to address issues with management before posting on a public forum. All of these concerns that I refer to below have been expressed to the management and the response to date has been indifferent at best. Overall this hotel is overdue a refurbishment but unfortunately the tired nature of the decor extends to the staff and management also. My problems were many. The room was not serviced properly on two days. Paint was flaking from the walls and the air-conditioning did not work properly, which meant the room was frequently cold. The room was also poorly lit, which created a very depressing ambience. Check in and check out were comical. When I checked out I was given no bill, no invoice or any receipt, neither was one emailed to me. When I got home I saw that I had been overbilled by €300 which management told me was normal practice but was being refunded to me. By the way it took three days of emailing management to be told this. This could have easily been avoided or cleared this up if I was given an bill/invoice or informed of this by reception, none of which happened. There were other issues. The downstairs common areas are small, rundown and completely misrepresented by the hotels website. The staff refused to hail me a cab and told me to go inside and order one. A small issue, but surely that's one of the benefits of staying in a five star hotel. Finally communication. I emailed them, using the address provided on their website, filled out a contact form on the website and finally completed a customer satisfaction survey. No of this aroused the attention of the Hotel Management. Finally I resorted to the only tried and trusted method, Twitter. I eventually got a response here, but it too was also slow and labored. The room was €500 per night. It was far from value for money. Would I go to Bordeaux again, most definitely yes. Would I stay in this hotel again, most definitely no. The problems in this hotel extend across the board, it will take some effort to fix them.

Hotel de l'Opera

This is a mixed review. This hotel is a great place to spend a night or two in Bordeaux. You are close to everything. The hotel is reasonably priced. The hotel is VERY clean. The rooms are VERY clean. One checks in at Four Sisters Hotel around the corner by L'Entrecote. As it was not explained to me I will explain. Leave the lobby of the Four Sisters Hotel turn right. At the next corner turn right the hotel is short way down the street on the left across from side of Opera House. I would not recommend this hotel for anyone handicapped. Don't let the scond door slam. The rooms are beautifully compact. I mean small. Good bed. Good bathroom. Remember all super clean. There is no place to put the soap down. Only 1 towel was weird. I was unable to charge cell phone even with correct adapter in strange French plugs in room. Excellent internet. TV signal made TV unusable. Great value if staying a few days and planning on not sitting in. I would stay again.

I recently had the please of staying in this hotel. The location is fantastic - it's right in the center of Bordeaux, very close to all the main points of interest in the city and also smack next to the tourist information office. The rooms are spacious, clean and comfortable. The staff went out of their way to help me, even though they had no obligation to do so. Thank you so much for making my stay so enjoyable!

Very distinctive hotel, ancient architecture and complete internal facilities. Warm and comfortable. Come back later.

I tried to like this place, but it let itself down in lots of areas. Good: Mostly friendly and helpful staff. Attempt at contemporary design. Fairly centrally located. Bad: Hotel carpark full and hard to drive around park public one nearby. Fire alarm at midnight - false alarm. Coffee undrinkable at breakfast, and unhelpful staff member who couldn’t find cold milk for coffee - didn’t seem to care what I wanted. Rest of food at breakfast not very tasty or appealing - old congealed scrambled egg. Poor tasting bacon. Crowded breakfast room. Noisy bar. It’s attempt at style looses lots of comfort. Room clean but shabby - peeling paint. No sockets for phones next to bed. Noisy hardly working air conditioning unit, in room for some reason on the floor. Noisy street noise if you open a window. Lifts often too busy to get, and so found I often had to walk down stairs. Cheapish, but not good value. There must be better options. Avoiding Ibis hotels now. There is a budget option next door, and I hate to think what you get there.
Hotel Majestic Bordeaux

'Majestic' as a name is slightly exaggerated for this hotel, located in a rather modest 18th century building. But the place couldn't be more central and convenient, in a small side street between the Grand Théâtre and the Place des Quinconces with its central tram station. We had booked a superior room, which was located on the 4th, thus the top floor, and facing a little courtyard, so it was very quiet day and night. The room was rather small, but all was conveniently arranged, so that we could still store our belongings. The bed was very comfortable. The bathroom was good too, with enough space by the washbasin and with toiletries 'Apothicals by Damana' from the French hotel amenities provider Groupe GM. The shower functioned very well, something which could not be said for the WiFi, maybe the weakest point for us at this hotel. At breakfast there was a good choice of items at the buffet, also the possibility to boil one's own egg. As so often in France coffee or tea were brought to the table. A special compliment must go to the very friendly and helpful staff at reception.
