We were in Europe for 17 days and had good experiences at every hotel we stayed at with the exception of Villa Victor Louie in Bordeaux. The hotel location is terrible with filthy streets and construction right outside the front door. It is almost impossible to find since signage is almost nonexistent. My daughter had requested an early check in which the lady checking us in was impossible. My husband and I are in our 70s and were very tired so this was disappointing. We left and my husband and I returned at 3:30, the time they said our room would be ready. My daughter and her husband were still sightseeing and weren't with us. The lady said they needed a credit card to pay for the room and I said I thought our daughter had already paid and they said no, they need a card or we can't go to the room. I gave them my card which she said was also for city tax of $2.49 each. The two young ladies then helped us get our luggage to the room which was nice. The room was nothing special. The bed had only one large square European pillow and the two normal pillows. We left the hotel before 4 am the next morning for a 6:15 am flight on Air France to Amsterdam. Later in the day my daughter received a message that we had taken pillows from the room. When I checked my credit card, I saw charges for the two rooms. When I called the hotel, they said it was for the bed clothes we took. I said we did not take anything from that room and used bed clothes are not something I would cram into my overpacked suitcase for a flight. Long story short, the hotel will not call us back and I am having to dispute the charges with my credit card company. Avoid this hotel at all costs. They need a complete change of management.

We were very disappointed with the victor louis. While it is is a nice renovation the lack of a lift meant we had to navigate 45 steps up and down whenever we went anywhere. The location is at least 10 minutes walk over very rough streets to anything worth visiting and the garbage on the footpaths and flying cyclists made it quite dangerous to walk anywhere. The breakfast offered for 12 euros each was a disgrace with little choice of fresh ingredients. The staff seemed to be students who were eager to help but not skilled. The worst experience of our 5 week European odyssey. Peter and Geraldine

We loved our stay at Villa Victor Louis. For us, it was a perfect weekend away in a beautiful city, great food, great wine and the room that we chose at that hotel was elegant, peaceful and we both got a great night sleep. I think we will definitely return. Although my waistline may not thank me if I do! The staff were really warm and accommodating and we spent the first 10-15 minutes chatting about where good things were situated in the city. Our host gave us a few pointers as to a good wine to drink without breaking the bank and another member of staff went above and beyond found a restaurant that served confit duck for me after I said in passing that I hadn’t been able to. It ended up being our final meal and a lovely one way to end it. Also a couple of things that I’d like to have known if I were reading a review are the following: It’s centrally located and is only a short walk from most places. Even if you do need to go slightly further afield then public transport in Bordeaux is good and you can get tickets on your smartphone if you want to utilise it (we didn’t often and only then due to the rain). It’s in a lovely area with old world charm and next to a beautiful church and square.
