Property situated at the top of ‘The Hill’ at Burford and about a 10 minute walk down to the centre. Although it is adjacent to the main road and a roundabout we didn’t find any issues with traffic noise during our two night stay as we had a room at the back so you may need to be aware of this if you have the front facing accommodation. The room we had was the Burford which is quite spacious ,clean and appears to have been recently refurbished. There is a good sized and powerful shower in the bathroom which also has plenty space. Coupled with a large wardrobe and an excellent double king sized bed which was very comfortable made for a good nights sleep. The one issue in the room is the amount of additional nick nacks that have been added which take up a lot of space. Once we had relocated the large plants, ornaments, bowls and vases as well as a collection of old books etc from the surfaces we were at least able to utilise some of the space available. I think here the emphasis should be on what the customer wants and we felt that if most if this was removed then at least it would be possible to have a chest of drawers in the room as clothing storage in this regard was very limited. As regards the food the breakfasts were certainly more than adequate and the full English in particular certainly a good way of setting up for the day. Our only down side with the food was on the one occasion we purchased a few ‘Nibbles’ at the bar in the evening, where the Hobbs House focaccia, cold-pressed rapeseed oil, sherry vinegar was very disappointing with the dip containing around 90+% vinegar and making it almost impossible to eat. We did mention this to both the server and the DM but neither appeared particularly interested in addressing the issue. However in the main the staff were very attentive and friendly and coped admirably when a coach load descended on the bar area unexpectedly on the Saturday afternoon. This property is part of the Butcombe chain - it’s certainly not the cheapest in the area unless you avail yourself of the loyalty scheme which will give you 20% off room rates as well as a few other extras - it was certainly of benefit to us and as it’s free to join is to be recommended . In summary a good stay at the property for a couple of nights notwithstanding the points identified above ,and is certainly somewhere we will consider again when in the area.
