Very bad reception at that of Aberfoyle!!! -Reception: After driving several hours to get to the hotel we only wanted to eat and relax. We arrive to check in and the receptionist Emilia tells us 5 minutes I'll be there! (no hello, please or other polite wording!) She arrives after 15 minutes!!!!!! without apologizing and speaks to us very curtly (we realize that she is not happy at all) we ask her for breakfast hours, she answers us uh, first I must have your visa card. (still in a really not cool tone at all). she checks us in by slamming the keys and our cards roughly on the counter, -Restaurant: The waiters were not friendly either, no hello, the meal was really of poor quality, I find that so shameful for a normally 4* hotel!!! During our stay, we visited several hotels and b&bs and I assure you that we were received simply but so warmly and the quality of the products was excellent. What a contrast! We who are so delighted to come to this hotel given the amenities and the setting; I will definitely not come back there again and I will not recommend it! -Breakfast: The next day when you woke up, another great disappoin**ent, how can I tell you that it was empty. Personally I find that what best defines this hotel is the appearance. At first glance it's very pretty, the setting is green, the interior is very elegant. The rooms are spacious but that's it. -The hygiene of the room was fair.

The hotel is disgusting. We were planned to stay there for 4 nights from Aug 22 but finally we stayed 1 night then moved to another hotel. There are no reception service to check in, we were waited for 30 mins and end up 1 staff came to argue with us to say we just waited for 10 mins. No lift, need to carry the luggage ourselves. No heater for cold weather. Think about if in winter there are no heater, you will be freezing in the room and no one will coming to help you. The waiter drop the food up of my clothes when serving. No apologies AT ALL. Can’t request what’s the food you going to have. It’s all based on the waiters recommendations. No wifi service until we paid 10 pound to the young boy in restaurant to help to set up for us. The room had insects. Facilities broken. Door without lock etc…

We stayed in one of the apartments by the tennis courts. Wonderful views across the loch, but that's where it ended. The room were tired. Old, worn, uncoordinated, uncomfortable furniture. Grubby carpets throughout and we even found old dog biscuits behind the TV unit mixed in with human hair and general fluff. Black mould in both bathrooms. Kitchen cabinet doors barely attached. And the list goes on. The food in the restaurant was basic at best and definitely not worth the money. Management clearly has no clue what running and maintaining a hotel is all about. A shame really because the location was great and most of the staff seemed to be doing their best. We will not be returning.

I held back writing this review but it has continued to stick in my throat and I feel it’s only right to provide feedback. My wife booked a surprise visit here for my 40th birthday in May 2023. My wife booked under her name and provided her details - this info is very important as there is a complete GDPR breach involved. A few days prior to my birthday I received a call from the spa to tell me that the treatments that I had booked were not available and that I could have something else. I politely advised I have no idea what you are talking about “I’m sorry is that Mrs …..”, no, no it’s not, “can you tell Mrs this message…” Surprise ruined. Upon realising what happened the spa person then encouraging me not to tell my wife and encouraging me to keep it between us…it was just terrible. It appeared because I stayed at the hotel 12 years ago (on the eve of our wedding) that my details (which were unrelated to this booking) were used when the spa staff searched by my wife’s surname. Good luck if you have a more common surname than me, madness will follow! We got to the hotel and run down doesn’t cover it. Running a bulldozer through the hotel would present it better. Basil Fawlty would drop dead at the site of this place pretending to be a hotel. As you read on you will probably agree with my bulldozer comments, just level it and start again. We waited to check in, there was a wedding on and the bride waited to walk in to the function suite as staff feasted at the main desk on crisps and ignored customers waiting to check in. Nice. Our room was terrible. A sofa from the 80’s adorned the room, I think it might have been left in our room on the way to the dump then forgotten about. The blinds didn’t close, it actually was broken and just hung, limply. We couldn’t eat in the main restaurant because the wedding was on which was fine, but this wasn’t explained when my wife booked us in, the first we heard was upon arrival, we were offered to eat in the sports club with a vastly reduced menu which was reduced even further on the night due to a massive lack of available options. It takes some effort to be this bad. We visited the pool and spa facilities on our stay. The massages were fine, nothing memorable. The facilities were not fine but were memorable. The pool ceiling was missing but the workmen kindly left random strips of insulating wool hanging from what remained of the ceiling and were left ready to drop in to the pool at any minute. The showers were vile, workmen had literally ran filler over spiders, it came as no surprise to see they had also ran filler over mould and filled gaps with silicone and then even more silicone. It’s was nothing short of a disgrace. The steam room was filthy and stunk as bad as the showers. The pool was cold. Despite me standing back while my wife settled the bill the lady at reception loudly announced the price. Upon hearing the price I was aghast, against my better judgement I didn’t say anything as I didn’t

We stayed 2 nights and had a lovely time. The hotel is set in beautiful gardens and the views are amazing. I agree the hotel is a little tired in places but our room was very comfortable and clean - and the views from our room were stunning. We ate both nights in the Garden Restaurant and thought the food was excellent but a little expensive (a sirloin steak was £39 plus extra for a sauce). However it was very good and again, those wonderful views. I guess most places have had to increase their prices. The staff were also very nice and I must commend them for remaining professional and polite even when dealing with some very difficult guests.

Wonderful location and beautiful gardens. The food in the Garden Restaurant was very, very good. Our room was large, comfortable and very clean. Although not modern and grey, it was well maintained. Staff were friendly and polite. I cannot understand Linda W’s review. Saying her stay affected her health is ridiculous. Whether physical or mental health, the beautiful surroundings and good food should have helped her. I don’t know where she took her photos as they definitely did not reflect the hotel we stayed in. Perhaps she is after a free holiday?
