I had the privilege to stay at the Commander every other week for 8 months due to business. This property is a treasure in Cambridge. Exclusively located right on Cambridge common, this hotel is a 10-20 minute walk from Museums, Harvard Campus, Harvard square and dozens of restaurants and shopping. The second you arrive the character is apparent, from the front visage modeled after Mount Vernon, a bronze statue of the Commander himself, and stunning ornate ceilings in the lobby. The rooms are well appointed and full of character. Built in the 1920's, it was originally an apartment building and hotel rooms, which does leave each room to be slightly different. You never know quite what you're going to get in the rooms. But you can count on comfortable beds, great closet space, and stellar service. The front desk is kind and always go above and beyond, Kaitlyn, Jose, and the rest of the front desk crew are always ready to greet you with a smile. Johannes at the concierge desk is a delight and ready to help. The hotel is connected to a nice restaurant, Nubar, which also serves as the breakfast buffet location. Breakfast is not free, but if you have Marriott Titanium and above you do get vouchers. The wait staff in the morning are wonderful, although I can't recall everyone's name, I had a great pleasure getting to know Claudia. The Commander truly became a home away from home. I hope to visit again soon!

The hotel is very comfortable, clean and quiet! The blue carpet, the interior color is gentle, and the water temperature is not suitable. The little brother came to help adjust it. He told me that this is the second most comfortable hotel in Boston, and I believe it! The night shift service at the front desk is called Sam. He is very nice. He will help you with any questions. If you have a language barrier, he will find a way to use a computer to translate. Will book again next time!

Great staff, very clean. Was skeptical when I read ”bathroom down the hall” but was pleasantly surprised by everything! For not having a bathroom in the room or pool STILL 10/10 I absolutely plan to be back soon! Might rent a whole floor with our couples friends

The location of this hostel is amazing! I stayed there for two nights in a six bed female dorm. The sheets were fresh and the hostel clean. Looking at some reviews here please keep something in mind: This is a hostel with a lot of people going in and out. Boston is an expensive city and you can’t find hotels in that location for less that $300-400 a night during busy seasons. So while this hostel might seem expensive at first, it is relatively cheap in comparison to hotels. Also consider the taxes. My bed was $69 but after tax, membership and all, I came close to a $100. Also, you’ll be sharing a room. There will be people coming in and out….what else would you expect? Earplugs and eyeshades go a long way. People come to Boston for different reasons, so they won’t be on the same schedule as you! However I thought everyone did great sticking to the quite times from 11-7. The mornings can get busy using the bathrooms, so plan accordingly. I thought it was a really cool place where you could work to many sights! I am glad I stayed there and saved myself from getting expensive hotels. Instead I used the saved money to explore the city’s sights, great coffees and delicious restaurants! Great stay!

If you like this review please remember to leave me a helpful vote as Tripadvisor doesn’t pay anything for me to write useful reviews. The short version is I enjoyed my stay and it was like staying in an upscale version of an Aloft hotel. The long version starts here: I came up and stayed for 5 days for Tufts graduation weekend in May 2022. Staff was friendly upon check-in. I tried to do check-in via the Marriott App and was successful to an extent. While I was able to use the App to open my room door, you need an actual room key from the front desk to use the elevators, gym and pool area. So just using the Marriott App was unsuccessful and abandoned. I was assigned a room on the 4th floor. The room is self is modern in appearance and was very clean upon arrival. There was a small fridge along with coffee and tea maker available. There wasn’t a lot of drawer cabinet space available (2 drawers) but there were a sufficient amount of surface area, plus the room had a 2nd bed that I wasn’t using that I could just put my clothes on. In addition to power outlets there are USB ports available both by the desk and in between the beds where you can recharge your devices. Coffee, tea and water were free and always available by the front desk. The Wifi at the hotel was complimentary and had good download and upload speed. There were also 2 complementary iMacs in the lobby to use. Parking at the hotel is $25 a night, the breakfast buffet was an additional $20, and there is no daily house keeping service. That being said, there are small signs hat you can leave on your door if you need additional towels or just stop by the front desk to get additional anything for the room. Just for informational purposes, across the street is the Alewife Reservation DCR parking with 8-10 parking spaces where you can park for free for 2 hours when exploring the Alewife Reservation “AREA”. About a 9 minute walk from the hotel is the Alewife T Station where overnight parking is $9 M-F and $3 overnight on the Weekends. The room will be serviced by housekeeping on the 4th day of your stay. As I mentioned, my plan had me there for 5 days. While the room was serviced on the 4th day of my stay. I think it would have been more efficient for housekeep to service the room at the midpoint go my stay (day 3) rather then the day before my departure (day 4). I also mentioned that the breakfast buffet was an additional $20. That being said, they sometime offer a complementary breakfast buffet in the restaurant. I’d guess your chances are 1 in 30 maybe. There would be a sign outside the restaurant if that is the case. It happened to be on my 2nd day there, and I thought the breakfast at the hotel was very good (while yes it was also free that day). There were freshly baked goods as well as 2 different types of baked omelets, cereal, eggs, yogurts, and various beverages. While there is nothing “shopping wise” in this area, I also brought my bicycle with me. Specifically it’s a Cann

Oct2022: 3⭐: I selected this hotel as a result of needing a place close to the house with easy access to the airport. I selected this hotel through the Bonvoy app based on it fitting the criteria I desired. I wasn't able to get to the hotel until the afternoon hours about 1700. I picked up my spouse from the airport and we decided to get her checked in at the hotel on the way to the hospital down the toll road. I noted that the hotel was difficult to enter and it took a bit of concentration to locate the front entrance of the hotel as it sits over top of the tollway 90. There were two handicapped parking areas available at the check in lot. There is a pay parking garage attached to the hotel and adjacent to the front entrance into the hotel. The parking garage has more handicapped parking areas available and regular parking as well. The areas are not good for large trucks or RVs. The entrance was located and I parked and we went into the hotel. We walked to the front desk and a female worker didn't greet us, didn't say hello, nor did she say welcome to the hotel. The worker said ”give me your id”. My wife was standing there to my side and I looked to see if there was someone else there we had stepped in front of or cut in line. There was no one there but us. My wife said what did she say? Is this the check in desk? I commented that this is the check in window, right? What happened to the smile, good afternoon, welcome to Sheraton, or just hello. DEMANDING my identification upon entering the building was definitely not appropriate. Having a bad day isn't MY fault. I have a choice to choose this location, not the other way around. We finished the check in at the desk, paid for parking, and we went to the room. We dropped off the bags and found that the bathroom door sags and does not properly close as it's hitting the bottom of the frame. One of the window blinds wasn't properly functional. The noise canceling device and the traffic was something to tolerate. Some vehicle drivers passing under the hotel on the tollway, enjoyed throttling the engine. This added noise to an already bad situation. Decent area food spots are walking distance from the hotel.

Our welcome was painless and friendly. There's an option for outdoor or underground garage parking - we parked in the garage and always found a spot by the elevator. Very safe! Complimentary breakfast was busy but easy and decent. I appreciate the hotel allowing me to receive a rate as a state employee. Employees at the front desk and breakfast service provided excellent service. The only downside was one of two elevators out of service, but this was a minor inconvenience and did not dampen our experience.

I would say the only thing positive about this location is the rooms. They are super clean and updated. As well as the night time manager is super accommodating. As far as the other employees they could care less. Night time manager even charged me half the deposit because I frequent here. The elevator is beat up and dated. The carpets in some hallways haven't been deep cleaned since the 1800s. Mostly all the soda and snack machines steal your money. The pool is surprisingly decent. I have only ever taken a swim once. The best thing is they allow animals for free. My little guy loves the night manager because he gives him treats constantly. This hotel has some super potential. Because you can hop on 93 and be in Boston with no traffic in 15 mins. Right next to market basket and some shopping/restaurants. If they renovated. Cleaned up and hired some more staff that care like the night shift manager, this place would be sold out every day without a doubt. Definitely room for improvement no doubt about that. But it is well worth the price. The rooms and beds are EXTREMELY nice. Just a drive away from Boston. Highly recommend solely off the rooms and beds in the room!

The hotel was decent. It is no 5 star hotel but our room was clean, everything worked as it should and the staff was super friendly. Check in and check out were quick and easy. We didn't spend much time in the hotel as we were in Salem most of our stay. The price was great for a place to sleep after a long day out touring. It's only about 20-30 mins from Salem which isn't bad if you want to save some money on a hotel. I know there are several bad reviews especially since most of the amenities listed are not actually available but if you just call ahead they are happy to let you know what is actually available while they work on getting certified to reopen a lot of what they offered after MA lifted all the restrictions.

The hotel is small, but the furniture and bathroom are new and have no odor. The bed and quilt pillows are super comfortable and will not cause the sound of salsa to affect sleep. There are not many types of breakfast, it is delicious. Great location, 10 minutes walk to the MIT Museum. There is a seafood restaurant across the road from the hotel and the lobster is great. The staff is also very warm and thoughtful. By the way, it is incredible that the room is also prepared with free snacks and fruit.

GGuest UserThis hotel is in a great location, Safe and busy... My wife and I went to a concert at the Crystal Ballroom last week and this hotel was 0.6 miles away. Cannons and Madi Sipes. An easy walk. Check-in was quick and friendly. Parking is by valet, $28/day plus tip. The room was small, but extremely comfortable. The shower had a large head that dropped straight down rather than from an angle. The bed was very comfortable too. Checkout is at noon as well. Not 10 AM like most hotels. We were also allowed to leave my truck in the garage after checkout. We walked the 1 mile to the Harvard campus and left around 2 PM.

GGuest UserThe maintenance of this property is abysmal. We were arriving from an international trip and wanted to sleep off our jet lag and visit our adult child living in the area. We arrived exhausted to find a bloody toilet seat, dirty bathroom, peeling paint from the ceiling, moldy bathroom and dusty room. When we called the desk to mention it- they said they would send housekeeping. They didn't offer to change our room- and we were so tired- we didn't ask. Housekeeper arrived (and entered without us opening the door) to clean the bathroom only. But clearly missed a lot of corners. The next day they offered to change our room-but we were too tired and busy to change- in the window of time that they offered us, so ended up staying in the filth. The bed was quite worn/spongy and didn't support us at all. The sofa bed mattress didn't have a mattress cover available. The view of the trash and T tracks were unappealing. The room was rather small/tight for 3,too. It was hysterical that we were sent emails confirming the hotel's commitment to COVID cleanliness. No hotel employees were masked. The best part of the stay was the good coffee always available in the lobby and the access to Cambridge and the T. I am a Bonvoy Gold member and expect a minimum quality to Marriott properties-this property was below all standards. It was the only time I was not recognized as a Bonvoy elite member too. When we complained about the filth- the hotel offered to refund us 1 night- but charged us the full amount. It only refunded AFTER we complained that there was a billing error. This hotel is not worth more than $300 per night. Look elsewhere.

GGuest UserWe loved staying at this Kimpton Marlowe! It was conveniently located in Cambridge just 5 minutes away from the main Downton Boston/North End area. Upon arriving, the gentleman at the front took our bags right away and placed them for us inside. Heidy, at check-in, was SUPER nice and helped accommodate our needs. She went above and beyond during our check in and check out to ensure that we had an excellent and comfortable stay. Our room was super clean, modern, beautiful, bright, and spacious. The room was nice and cool. The beds were SUPER comfortable. There was a fridge. We called down to have coffee machine brought up and they brought it right away. Our view overlooked a beautiful garden and the downtown Boston area. We asked Khalid where we should go for dinner celebrations that night and he kindly offered us a few suggestions that he thought we would like. The hotel is a short walk from downtown and a moderate walk to Harvard Square/Somerville. There is a reserved entrance, so it's super easy to get into Ubers. There's also a CVS/mall closeby in case you need to pick up any items that you need. We went down to the restaurant for brunch one day and we had a great time. The food was amazing; great selection offered. Our server was AMAZING - so nice, so responsive, so attentive (probably one of the best that we had in Boston)- and the overall dining experience was wonderful. There was another woman who helped us on our second day with extending our trip, which was very helpful. Overall: great location (close to Harvard square, go-to spots in Cambridge, and downtown Boston). Walkable. Easy to get an Uber. Close to stores. GREAT rooms (comfortable bed, spacious, bright, cool). Great amenities (coffee maker, fridge, microwave if you need, happy hour, coffee hour in the AM), and super friendly staff (Heidy, Khalid, everyone else at the front desk - sorry didn't catch your names!! -, the servers at the restaurant), and the restaurant too. Definitely recommend!

YYIZIMore like a family hotel, the design of the house is very characteristic, very warm, the room is small, breakfast is very close to Harvard, can walk, but the parking space is very small, we went late, parked in a parking space Location, I originally wanted to park the hotel the next morning, go to Harvard, but the hotel said that the location of our car is not good, we have to leave when we check out. As a result, we are looking for parking lots everywhere. It is very expensive and the parking fee is very expensive. I went to live in the parking lot and said that it was not good to park near Harvard. In the end, I was looking for a parking lot everywhere. It took time and money, and the hotel price was not high.

GGuest UserWe were stuck in Boston while one of us was hospitalized with a medical emergency. We chose the hotel based on proximity to Mass General hospital. Hotel ratings looked good and the price was more reasonable than other hotels in the area but still big city prices. It is a pleasant and scenic 1 mile, 20+ minute walk along the Charles River and over the Longfellow bridge from the hotel to the hospital. Staff at the desk were pleasant and helpful. Larry, the gentleman who handles bags, taxis, etc, was kind and helpful. The room was just OK, a bit worn but still pleasant with a great view. The bed was comfortable. Seating was limited. The bathroom was small and a bit inconvenient, also in need of updating and minor repair. In room coffee is free but with only powdered creamer available. Bottled water is $3.00! The ArtBar restaurant in the hotel was a plus. Good food, good prices, good service. There is also a small coffee shop with pastry, sandwiches, etc. Just across the road is a small mall with a restaurant and retail stores. All in all a satisfactory stay even though the hotel could use a bit of updating.

CClimber45810064073Nice large hotel in a fairly central location. Easy to get to the Interstate, downtown and Logan airport. When we first arrived we thought the neighbourhood was sketchy but actually it was fine. We walked to the T station in 10 mins, and Cambirdgeside mall in about 12 mins with no issues. There is car parking on site which was fine, quite expensive though. The rooms themselves were clean, very spacious actually and quite modern. Our bathroom was huge, I don't know if that was unique to us, but very nice. Staff were extremely friendly and we had no issues during our stay. The breakfast was tasty with a lot of options. There was a pancake making machine which I hadn't seen before which was a pleasant surprise. The dining area itself was a little cramped though. Overall a good place to stay in Boston, fairly well priced compared to other establishments.

JJINLIANGBreakfast costs $ 20, but the hotel is connected to Starbucks, so you can choose Star Dad. Or Dunkin Donuts on the side, which is also a very earthy breakfast chain (similar to Bobby steamed buns or Shaxian, but the quality is stable). Location is relatively close to the city, 10 minutes walk from the Red Line subway, there is a fresh pond opposite, the environment is good. The hotel should be pet friendly, with guests and dogs. A little bit of trouble is that after Ctrip booked the hotel, the hotel charge was more than 100 yuan more than the room rate, and the pre-authorization deposit of 50 yuan was checked on the spot and paid separately. This is far worse than the Ctrip customer service has not yet received a response and solution. In addition, most of the waiters in the hotel are black, and the service awareness is slightly poor. One day I came back once in the afternoon, and I used to put the tip for the next day on the bedside table, but I came back at night and found that it was gone ...
