The Westin Lagunamar Ocean Resort Villas & Spa, Cancun

Hotel is nice, beds are comfortable, staff is super friendly and accommodating. The beach and amenities are beautiful. Given it is a time share/resort, its definitely catered more to a crowd of older retirees and families, but still nice. The only draw back is the food is not great and quite expensive, but there are a lot of other dining options nearby. 5 mins walk across the street to the mall, so close to all the shops, anything you might need.

Unbelievably terrible. The space, room and service are intolerable. We asked for the service but no response. The room is very noisy and cannot fall asleep. The sink is damaged and the water is smelly. We went to the restaurant but no one is coming to serve. The food is cold and bad.

We arrived a bit early, so we ended up in a different Villa. We loved our Villa, which was like a small apartment. It was exceptionally clean and comfy. The beds were super comfy and we had plenty of towels at all times. The “Infinity pool” overlooking the beach was the Star! It was so so beautiful! All the staff were so nice and helpful! We felt safe. We ordered a molcahete, very disappointed as it didn’t even come in a molcahete. It was bland and the salsas tasted like ketchup- not real salsa. This was only disappointment “food not good.” The ocean, beach, pool , room, and easy walking to fancy Mall was perfect! We would stay here again for sure! You feel safe, comfortable and the water is so clean. We lived it!

Update: after 4 days here at the Westin, I’ve upgraded this property and my review below fr 2 stars to 4. Here’s what I learned which may help you if you plan to visit. 1. DO NOT ARRIVE BEFORE 4pm. Your room will not be ready and this is where the hiccups occur. 2. DO NOT ACCEPT A ROOM ON THE 4th floor or below, unless you do not care about seeing the water. 3. Get clear directions to your room at check in or have a concierge staff member walk you to your room. Days 2-4. Our stay got much better. The pool is fabulous. Rooms are spacious, comfortable and clean. The food at the Duna Sports bar and surrounding restaurants is fantastic. Be sure to visit La Parilla for dinner. Overall, Cancun never disappoints. You cannot beat the weather in Mexico. You won’t get the iffy weather patterns like in the Caribbean. We probably won’t come back to this property but we had a great stay. Original review…. Day 1. We arrived here at the Westin with high expectations. We were here 15 years ago and had a great time. Time changes everything. We arrived prior to check-in and were prepared to wait on the 4pm check in time. We ordered food at the poolside grill. Sub par grilled fish tacos. The pizza was good and fried fish tacos were good. Worst chips and salsa I’ve ever had…served in a cellophane bag with pre-prepared guac. We went back to check on our rooms and one half of two bedroom lock out was ready. My husband was told to wait on the concierge. We waited and waited and waited. I went back to Lucas to see what was taking so long. He said they were meeting us upstairs with our bags. We found our way to the room after asking the cleaning staff…who walked us there…to find no bags. It’s 5pm by this time and we were becoming angry. Eventually our bags were brought up and only two keys for two separate rooms. Although we read in previous reviews “do not stay in rooms 3rd floor and below” we took the third floor in building 8. Big mistake. Our entire view is obstructed by palm trees. Only good part of day 1 is the pool. It is beautiful and humungous. We’re owners and we are extremely disappointed in Marriott Vacation club. The check in process was horrific with signing tons of papers agreeing to this and that. You’ll be charged $20 if you lose the pool cards. It’s giving Comfort Inn vibes. We will NOT be back.

We enjoyed the best family vacation ever at the Westin Lagunamar Cancun! Ten of us, young and old, arrived later in the day - sadly the transportation by concierge recommended 'The One' was delayed by 45 minutes. Once we arrived at the hotel, check-in was slow but we were grateful that we were able to get all four rooms in close proximity to each other. (Thanks to our great concierge, more on that later) Another hiccup was that Mastercard was not accepted for for room purchases (although the front desk charged our misc taxes to it before we checked out) so we were unable to charge to our room. Thankfully others in our party were so it worked out ok. Once we were checked in, had a great sleep and stocked up at Costco, the fun began! The pool was amazing and our littles were obsessed with the waterslide. Our concierge Javier was wonderful and arranged a private catamaran day as well as Captain Cook pirate ship dinner theater. He checked in on us several times during our stay so we felt very well taken care of. The beach was beautiful but wind and choppy water for the first 5 days prevented us from enjoying it at the beginning of our stay. The mall across the street with a wide variety of restaurants was perfect when we weren't grilling our own family meals. All in all, a good time was had by all!

This hotel is a time-share but welcomes non-owners. It has a small deli/market on site and several eating establishments. Excellent breakfast. Mall and good eateries are just across the street. Beautiful beach, we felt very safe.

The best Family resort. It's just wonderful in all ways.

We lost our first day and we're continually bothered throughout our stay by staff for sales. Our concierge even went so far as to say please, this is her livelyhood. I don't go on vacation, spend my hard earned money so you can try to make me feel guilty. This place didn't make you feel like you were on vacation. It was over the top. On our last night there, they even shoved brochures under our door. We were happy to leave.
