Hampton Inn Charleston-Historic District

The best things about the Hampton Inn were the location and the hotel employees. The hotel is 15 minutes to half an hour walk from Charleston’s major attractions, including shopping, and twenty minutes from the airport. Charleston is made for walking. It is compact, clean and safe, so we walked everywhere. The attitude of the front desk employees epitomized southern hospitality. The hotel offers free breakfast which is basic, but satisfying. Room cleaning is offered upon request. twenty minutes from the airport.

Simple and clean, with good coffee.

Older hotel in a GREAT LOCATION. Service was great, but the HVAC system is terrible. Our room was 70° when we walked in. We turned it down to 68° before bed, only to notice that the thermostat was actually set at 89°. We did set it to 68°, but when we woke up in the morning, the temperature had dropped to 62°. The front desk sent maintenance to take a look at it while we were out for the day. We asked to have it set at 68°. When we returned that evening, it was set at 72°, but it was 77° in our room. Maintenance was sent back up to take a look. He made some adjustments, but it was still having issues. We asked to switch rooms, which we did, but we had the same issue. Finally got the temperature to stay around 68° by setting the thermostat to 78°. We also had the fan set to go on and off automatically, but it ran the entire time, which made it feel even colder than what the thermostat said. I also noticed others complaining of the HVAC issues. It may work better when just using the A/C, but it was frustrating trying to get some heat on some cold days in Charleston.

Great location to King Street, Charleston Music Hall and bus depot.

The parking lot does not belongs to the property so you have to pay for it daily. Also pet charge is also 75 dollars daily with a max of 250. Otherwise the hotel is nice well care and clean.

My room smelled musty and the air conditioner did not work. We set it to 65 and it remained at 78 degrees all weekend. I called the front desk multiple times to send someone to fix it and no one ever came. The pillows were very uncomfortable. Our bed was extremely squeaky and in bad condition. Seemed very old and run down.

I have stayed at this hotel several times. I like it. It is convenient to places I want to go and it a good bargain. It is showing some age and could use some updating but I don’t care.

This hotel is in the perfect location for downtown Charleston SC. It is located at the corner of Meeting and John St. with the entrance on John to include the city garage entrance. We checked in around 2pm without any problem and all of the staff that we encountered were both friendly and professional. Parking was easy as we parked in a guest registration spot to unload our luggage and then entered the city garage a few yards away which was safe and secure with the hotel having a flat fee of $35 a day for in/out parking. The lobby is well appointed as is the large outdoor courtyard that also has a pool and tables with umbrellas. Our room was very clean with a king bed, desk/chair, dresser, etc. a sitting chair and a large wall mounted TV. No room for a refrigerator and microwave which was fine. Breakfast was standard Hampton Inn fare which worked for us and there is 24 hour coffee/tea in the lobby as well. There is an alley right next door that has four restaurants and a music hall that has some interesting shows advertised. King Street which is a shopping and restaurant area is right down the block. Lastly our room on the third floor facing East and downtown was very quiet which is a big plus for city hotels. On our next Charleston visit this hotel will be our home base.
