Visited the Malmaison in Cheltenham for a weekend away with my sister. It's in a great spot in the Montpellier area of town with all its reataurants, bars and shops. I found the hotel pretty tired. I had booked a twin room, which is in the old part of the hotel. Lovely room with high ceilings and big windows...the issue is that it is not being maintained to the standard I would expect from a Malmaison and certainly for £180 a night. I have stayed in a lot of Mals and was surprised how poor this was. Torn curtains, worn furnishings and the shower area was really poorly maintained with split wood, dirty shower trim and a faulty plug in the bath. We also had an issue that we couldn't get any hot water in the morning so had a cold shower. The manager on duty Alex was very helpful and apologetic. As he couldn't sort it he did give us 50% off the bill which was appreciated. It wasn't the treat stay in the hotel I had hoped for. Back to Premier Inn for me, at least you know what you are going to get.
