First Hurdle Guest House is in the centre of Chepstow with paid public parking nearby next to the main A48 road. There is a pizza restaurant on the ground floor and pubs and restaurants nearby, so there was some disturbing noise in the early part of the night. Check in is in the restaurant, but there was little delay as restaurant staff member soon became check in clerk. This area was also the warm seating area for an adequate continental breakfast. The room was small and the bed a double, as advertised, and not a queen bed found in most hotels today, but this is a guest house not a hotel. The steep stairs led to the bedrooms in this old quirky building. The bathroom had adequate towels and toiletries but not luxurious. Everything seemed clean but a bit worn. There was plenty of hot water for the small shower. TV worked and there was coffee, tea etc with a kettle. Staff were friendly and helpful. Price was a bit pricey for what is on offer, but this was an on-the-day booking through an online agency.
