It is hard to judge the Kimpton Monaco Chicago while it is the midst of reconstruction - but MANY shortcomings will NOT be remedied by completion. Having a restaurant, a lobby, and an elevator that stops at the breakfast/reception area might help and, hopefully, there will be an awning to ameliorate the wet on arrival and departures. However, the designer of our room should be required to stay there a couple of days to suffer the failings: the plethora of doors were constant obstacles, lighting was hard to use and not adequate, the bathroom lighting was poor for make-up and shaving, the unlighted makeup mirror did not help, the bathroom was cold, there are inadequate hooks for towels, the shower can only be controlled by leaning over the toilet, the tv distorts the picture and has poor sound, there is inadequate seating for work or snacking, and there is no coffee maker which is generally standard in most motel chains. The friendliness and general helpfulness of the staff to not compensate for the above failings,
