Top rated hotels in Chicago

The St. Regis Chicago

I posted this review on another site just after our stay. I was contacted via email about one of the issues, and offered points as an apology for some of what I reported. Thing is, three weeks later, those points haven't appeared, and my follow-up email was ignored. So, might as well make sure the review gets more visibility. I definitely did not expect to give this property four stars, and it’s really 3.5… Marriott lifetime gold, lifetime status on AA and UA, I’ve stayed a lot of top hotels. As a hotel, check the boxes. Very comfortable bed, room darkening shades very dark, silent - even with nascar getting started down the street that morning. But there’s so many of the small details wrong! For the hype and the rate, expected far better. - cannot turn on a light in the bathroom without turning on a light in the main room - could not turn off night light (eventually told to unplug it) - “reading light” is far from the small discreet light expected, unusable as it is up in the ceiling and bright - one chair, no way for a couple to sit at the table to eat.. and the chair looks like a desk chair - full length mirror can only stand 18 inches away - huge bathroom but no privacy for its use .. sliding door really? No exhaust fan. Cubicle approach is weird - shower is pretty, let it be more visible … but also, I can’t read the labels on the shampoo and conditioner without my glasses. The brand name is nice and prominent - amenity kit was open and partially used - “mini fridge” no space for your own anything just an honor bar - called butler for ice at 10:10 pm. By 11:15 i gave up. Never arrived. There’s no ice machine I could find on our floor but when it’s a St Regis should I have even had to go look? Really experienced no service. Stuff left outside room next door at night was still there in the morning, and I mean like 9:30 am - I’ve heard Tre Dita is a very pretty restaurant. We didn’t eat there, but wanted to check it out before leaving. Cannot even access the floor of the hotel outside hours. Chicago is home so I can’t say I’ve checked out all the hotels, but there are several top-end properties we've used for similar weekends in the city and been a lot happier.
