The room smells like mold, there are spider webs in the corners, and there are black caps in the toilet and sink. The bathroom was also dirty which was very disappointing. The women were very responsive and had good customer service, but the young foreign husband was not very friendly, which was a shame. I think the food was good in volume and taste. However, if you ask me if I want to go again, I probably won't go.

Really friendly ryokan, with good onsen baths. Owners went above and beyond to make our visit fun. Delicious and plentiful food for both dinner & breakfast. Great value for money. Baths showing some signs of wear and tear due to the sulphurous onsen fumes, so hopefully will get some TLC in near future. Rooms and other areas are lovely.

We had a wonderful stay at Kamesei. Between the warm welcome, beautiful and rejuvenating onsen, and the delicious dinner, it was more than we'd expected. The gardens were lovely and added a serene touch as well. We opted for the bike rentals along the river and the bikes were tuned up and great for a smooth coast along the river flats. Definitely recommend for a few hours. Tyler-san recommended the mochi at Takemizuwake Shrine on the return journey and they were almost as lovely as the proprietress there. If you are travelling with kids, there is a games room that was great for our 4-year-old, and she was given some special slippers, which pretty much made her day. She was also catered for at dinner with some kidfrendly fare, which was a lovely and unexpected touch. If you're not travelling with kids, the games room is tucked in a corner away from things, so wouldn't cause unexpected noise. This was by far the most relaxing portion of our month-long journey. Thank you again! Kim, Andrew, and Evie

We had a great two night stay and would have liked to have stayed longer and explored the area more. Great communication from Tyler before our visit made all the difference. The walking tour of the town is highly recommended, as was the Geisha show

The ryokan is lovely, we felt very looked after. The dining was exceptional and the onsen perfect - especially the little outdoor area. But do make sure you keep an eye on the colour of the curtains as they get swapped daily! I did visit one of the town onsens and although interesting to see, the ryokans onsen was heaven. The town is worth visiting, and Tyler’s tour quite individual and well worth it

I stayed here because I thought I would be able to relax since there are fewer guest rooms than at other inns. When I arrived, the owner, Tyler, personally greeted me, showed me to my room, and made me tea. There was no bureaucratic element that is common in large inns, and I was able to fully feel his friendly personality. If I had more time, I would have liked to talk to him about various things. I also enjoyed the homemade Seattle cookies. If they were sold as souvenirs, I would have bought some to take home, but unfortunately I forgot to check. The food was delicious, and I was able to relax and recover from the fatigue of touring.
