This hotel is the most cost-effective hotel in my trip to England, very value! The room is large, the bed and pillows are very comfortable, the facilities are complete, the parking is free, and the breakfast is superb! In fact, it should be an old manor transformation, the garden is super large, reminding me of Downton Manor. The little brother at the front desk is super humorous and has a rich expression.

On this, our third stay at the wonderful Howard Arms, being older and less mobile we were in the Garden Room which has two windows looking over the large, pretty garden. We were very comfortable in this clean, spacious and luxurious room. The large bathroom has a tub and a separate shower and there is plenty of surface space for washbags, etc. I did have a minor niggle with the hangers in the wardrobe. These were the sort that have the anti-theft security rings attached to them which you get in most hotels these days. Usually the hangers can easily be lifted out of their rings to ease the process of hanging up your clothes. However, most of these were tightly wedged into the rings and so I found it difficult to hang my clothes up. The first evening we chose the Sunday Roast and plumped for pork loin. This consisted of two slices of pork, a splendid Yorkshire Pudding, and gravy, accompanied by a huge heap of veg, and I mean HUGE - roast potatoes, greens including broccoli, various root veg such as carrots and celeriac, and a generous portion of cauli cheese. Adam Richman and Casey Webb would have felt at home here but we were completely over-faced. That said, however, we were a bit disappointed to get only two small slices of pork loin per person, which seemed a bit mean compared to the overwhelming amount of vegetables provided. We’d have preferred at least three slices of pork and a ”normal” amount of vegetables. But it was all nicely cooked. Our meal on the second evening was superb. We were delighted to see Creedy Carver duck on the menu and this turned out to be a generous portion, beautifully cooked and presented, and absolutely delicious. We couldn't fault it. I highly recommend this lovely, comfortable old pub in the beautiful village of Ilmington. All the staff were polite and friendly and we would certainly stay there again when next in the area. In fact, we were very sorry to leave.

Stayed for 1 night to ”get away from it all” and left exhausted we paid close to £200 for one night we placed in the coach house the room was nice when we first looked high ceilings and lovely window however after being in there a little while we noticed it was very dirty, there was a boiler in our room which must have supplied the block with hot water which noisily refilled throughout the night , my partner hardly slept at all, the spa facilities were also dirty and reminded me of a average public swimming baths, the decking was mouldy, there were so many missing tiles in the pool , the gym equipment was unsafe the bench press not being fixed to the ground , dinner was not a great experience , staff were very friendly but the starter that came out was completely different to what was described in the menus and actually inedible when we told the waitress she just ”oh sorry ” and took it away , We have emailed the hotel manager Herman to tell him how disappointed we were , but he hasnt responded

The setting is super for visiting the sights and the hotel is a beautiful historic building. The modern spa was nice to use but we found the room quite basic and could do with a freshen up and very disappointed that there where no hot drink making facilities in the room. We had the breakfast included in our room cost and we were very disappointed in that - everything was swimming in grease and the black pudding and potato rosti were very over cooked so we could not finish our meal. The car park is £7 per nights stay but were were not made aware of this beforehand. We would probably stay again but would upgrade to a room in the old part of the building and won't have the cooked breakfast.

The quality has always been stable, the room is neat and clean, this time it directly faces the hotel's own garden, and the view is very beautiful. The type of breakfast remains unchanged, it is still the traditional British breakfast, mushrooms, grilled sausages, bacon, baked beans and scrambled eggs. It’s just that the parking fee has increased this time, to 8 pounds per night. Prices in the UK are generally rising.
