Close to shopping mall, there is a very nice Chinese restaurant opposite. I will choose this one next time. The first floor that likes to drink is the bar.
The environment is good, at first glance, there is the feeling of Downton Manor. The attitude of the younger brother at the front desk is good, there is no elevator, and the big box is a little hard. Booked the cheapest standard room, outdated facilities, sanitation. The restaurant environment is ok, the taste is very general, and there are fewer people eating dinner. Breakfast is a traditional English breakfast, waiting for a long time, feeling forgotten, the restaurant is a young waitress serving poorly. Breakfast tableware is not clean. Surrounded by golf courses, the environment is good, some residents around the leisure play, it is estimated that the consumption is not high.

Went in for the Pub Quiz on Sunday. Lovely atmosphere and good afternoon's entertainment. Bar selection was a bit limited and steep in price. Only a larger on draft, no ales on tap although the bottles were from local breweries, no soft drinks on tap only bottles so expensive for the little capacity. Food choices very limited only a couple of choices of crisps. Selection of gin was very good, and very much enjoyed! Will we be back to support the quiz? Of course but could not afford every week.
The location of this accommodation is perfect. Just 10-15 minutes walk from Canterbury West Train Station. There is a Sainsbury's local at the corner and the main street is just 2 minutes walk. The host is very nice and friendly. The room is clean, bed sheet and duvet smell good. For amenities, there are only hand wash and body wash, you have to bring your own stuffs. It's a good experience to stay in this accomodation.
The hotel is in a small town, and it is very close to the town on foot.....The lower level is a bar and restaurant, but it is quiet, with a small river in front, the rooms are European and clean, and you can see the cathedral.... .The breakfast is very rich, I chose a full English breakfast...
Having never been to Canterbury before, we were amazed to find this place which is in the very centre of the city with its own parking spaces outside. We didn't eat there, I don't think they do breakfasts, but there is no need as you are about a minute or two's walk from places to eat. There are a lot of stairs but that was no problem to us. Our room was very well appointed and decorated. We had a private bathroom just outside the bedroom. I believe the building is Grade 2 listed. The only minus point was that it could have done with double glazing for sound insulation as it's so centrally situated. I would certainly recommend it. We had 2 nights here.
Had a very pleasant time staying here. The hotel is positioned within the walled grounds of Canterbury Cathedral. Views from the room were spectacular as it overlooked the Cathedral. The staff are warm and friendly and were very accommodating, always smiling and helpful. The room was very clean and modern and was equipped with everything we needed. The bed was very comfortable and the bathroom clean and fresh with fluffy towels. Breakfast was also good and the was waitress service. Overall we would recommend this lovely hotel not only for the perfect location to be able to walk into the city centre and for a tour of the Cathedral but also because it is so quiet at night. We always sleep with our window slightly open and because they close the gates at night around the walked grounds we had 2 perfectly quiet night’s sleep. Couldn’t be better and we will return in the future to this hotel without any hesitation.
Very well appointed, comfortable and easy short walk from the station and the historic centre. Booking was simple, email instructions were very good and made our late arrival and access to our room very easy. Breakfast was cooked fresh to order and staff were very friendly. Couldn’t fault it for comfort and character and will be recommending it to friends.

Outstanding
GGuest User1. Facilities: Parking is available at the door. The room is fully equipped and the layout is very detailed and warm;
2. Hygiene: The room and public areas are very clean and tidy;
3. Environment: The surrounding area is full of British-style buildings similar to the hotel, which is pleasing to the eye. It is about 20-30 minutes walk from the city center, which is very convenient.
4. Service: Very detailed. In addition to English breakfast, there are many other options for breakfast. The big sisters and little sisters who serve the hotel are very diligent, and the garden is very beautiful.
Recommended!
LLaura-JayneSecond time staying here and it was just as perfect! Staff are so friendly and helpful. Rooms are clean and well decorated, the bed is the best ever!! Will be coming back again. Highly recommended 🥰💕
KKukiMakRoom was a good size and clean. The double bed was a good size and comfortable. The sofa bed was a good size but a little uncomfortable.
Good options for breakfast (cereal, toast, english breakfast) although some of the hot items were cold. All staff were friendly and helpful.
This hotel is completely unique. It is an ancient building with stairs, uneven floors in places and rooms above the shops along the Burgate directly next door to the Cathedral entrance. Our beautiful room at the back, had a four poster bed and views over the rooftops to the Cathedral. Access was up some steps through an outdoor seating area and a lovely residents lounge and up further steps. The staff were outstanding. Nothing was too much trouble and they went out of their way to help in any way possible including giving advice about local restaurants and pubs, places to visit and car parking. Continental breakfast is included in the price with additional charges for full English. All brought to you at your table and excellent. We all absolutely loved this completely unique ancient and beautiful place with wonderful, kind, helpful staff.
GGuest UserPros: The room is clean and cleaned up in a timely manner. The breakfast is good, and the steak in the restaurant on the first floor can be slightly expensive.
Cons: No elevator.
However, there are few old hotels in the UK with elevators.
First things first - it is now called the Thanington Hotel. Parking is limited - once you enter there is no room to turn round if it is full and getting in and out of spaces is tricky. We parked on the back roads opposite the hotel for most of our stay. 15 minutes walk to the main shops and cathedral with a few decent pubs on the way. We were in room 9, decent size room with plenty of storage space. It was a bit tight between the bed and the wall. Good bathroom with powerful shower. We had air-con in our room but we couldn’t keep it on as it dripped tons of condensation onto the floor - we half-filled the waste paper bin. We enjoyed the hot and cold buffet breakfast with the occasional wait while they topped up the servers. We tried the bar one evening but there was not much choice and the night manager didn’t have much of a clue on portion sizes. We loved the inner courtyard for a relaxed rest. We’d definitely use again if we were in the area.
ZZhouxiaolaThis hotel in Canterbury is highly recommended. The hotel should have a history of more than 100 years. It is a family business. The house looks ancient from the outside, but it has been renovated inside. The lobby is quite modern. We booked a king-size room, which was very large. The bed was very comfortable. The bathroom was also large. The key point is that the hotel parking lot is free. If you drive to Canterbury, I highly recommend staying here. It takes about 20 minutes to park the car and walk to the center of Canterbury. Compared with international chains, we prefer these local hotels, which are less crowded, quieter, more comfortable, and more cost-effective.
GGuest UserThe best thing about this hotel was the location - couldn’t fault it. Unfortunately, there were lots of aspects of the hotel that we felt just weren’t ok for somewhere charging these prices. The main issue was the staff, from the moment we arrived, it was clear that most were disinterested in their job. We were disappointed to find that the breakfast was continental only (not something made clear on ***********). We asked for toast, they asked what kind we’d like and we said white. When it didn’t come we asked again and they said there was no white. Which is fine, but the same happened the following morning too. The hairdryer didn’t work in our room. My partner went to reception for them to plug it in (it worked), and hand it back to him saying it was fine. We tried again in our room, it didn’t work in any of the sockets. He went back and overheard the manager saying ‘what’s he complaining for - it works!’ We were then advised to not ‘wave it around’ or ‘use a brush to style with.’ The only way we could get it to work was if he held the plug into the wall while I used it.. and then it became incredibly hot after 30 seconds. I don’t understand the stand-off attitude and why we couldn’t be given a different hairdryer - it clearly was faulty and they knew it. The room we were in was large but with only one small window (and the smallest tv I’ve ever seen!) I echo what another reviewer says - in the night it was SO hot I couldn’t breathe. Awful ventilation. We also had a drippy tap and the bathroom door only shut when slammed. When we left, the staff were sat having breakfast and didn’t even come over to the reception to take the keys or ask how our stay had been. Overall I feel that this hotel was once probably lovely, however maybe the owners have stepped back a bit and the people they've left to run it just don’t really care. It’s also very interesting how the hotel has no presence on this page - not even to acknowledge reviews, let alone reply. Says a lot!
