"The hotel is one of the largest in the area and is fully equipped. The surroundings are also pleasant; there's a local market nearby selling coconuts, where you can get 5 for 10 RMB – an excellent deal! The Chinese restaurant is also very good."
"**ROOM 102 (01–02 JUNE 2025)**
This was my first time staying at this hotel. Based on recommendations from social media friends, this hotel was said to be the best in the area.
However, after staying here, I found the room to be quite ordinary. It is recommended that the hotel management consider renovating the room design to align with current interior design trends.
To maintain guest comfort, there are several important aspects that the hotel management should improve:
1. CLEANLINESS
* Bathroom tiles are moldy and have an unpleasant odor.
* Exhaust fan is dusty.
* Toilet window frame is dusty.
* Window glass has smudge marks.
2. FACILITIES
* The air conditioner is very noisy and not sufficiently cold, even when set to a very low temperature.
* Curtain railing is not well-maintained; the room remains bright even when the curtains are closed.
* No bidet hose provided.
* The restaurant during breakfast is quite cramped despite a large number of guests.
* No iron and ironing board provided in the guest room.
* Peephole does not have a cover.
HIGHLIGHTS
1. A safety box is provided.
2. Coffee amenities are available.
3. Fast WiFi connection."
"We were not made aware that Sandakan has water shortages. When we got there the first day we couldn’t even take a bath. Not a very good experience for once. The hotel should mention these issues to avoid inconveniences. We had to buy mineral water to bath. I know it’s not the hotel’s fault but the hotel should at least give us a heads up"
"During a major blackout in our area, it was almost impossible to find a hotel. Thankfully, Trip.com helped us secure a booking, and the hotel even offered a free upgrade so my kids could have a good night’s sleep. Truly grateful for the excellent service!"
"The employees were great. They did all they could to keep the hotel running, keep the hotel clean etc.
The hotel building is not new. It has seen better days. If you are lucky you would get a room with a quiet AC (6th floor and upwards). The room was clean enough.
5-10 minutes away from shops, market etc."
"I had a generally pleasant stay at this hotel, with a few things that could be improved. The room was on the smaller side, but it was clean and I really appreciated the full-length mirror — a thoughtful touch that made getting ready much easier.
The shower worked fine, though the shower head was positioned a bit unusually, so I found it more comfortable to use the handheld option. Not a big issue, just something to be aware of.
The only real challenge was the presence of a few mosquitoes in the room, which made it harder to sleep well. With better pest control, this would make a big difference to the overall comfort.
Despite these points, the staff were friendly, and with a bit more attention to room comfort, this hotel has good potential."
"The decor is a bit dated, but it's very quiet with a nice environment. There's a huge pool with a big slide that both adults and kids will love. It's perfect for a family or couples' getaway."
"The bed was comfortable. The room was clean and though the decor a bit unusual, It was a safe place to stay and all staff were very friendly, and the gym was average, but overall a good stay. Thankyou"
"It was located well next to the Orangutan sanctuary. Had a nice pool, with a scenic walk to get there.
The breakfast was really nice, and changed slightly each day. Rooms were cleaned daily. Our room didn't have AC, and the WiFi didn't. No free water is provided, and it's overpriced to buy. There is a very small shop that sells it cheaper close to the resort."
"Very clean they even have air purifiers by the corridor. Cheaper rooms don't have an attached bathroom and have to share common bathrooms. Would be nice if there was a hairdryer and mirror in the room. Plenty of free parking spaces, surrounded by restaurants, convenience stores, 24hr laundry..etc."

A jewel-like tiny island in the Sulu Sea, a 1.5 hour boat rides north of Sandakan; Lankayan has been declared part of an immense Marine Protected Area to adopt the eco-tourism concept. Unpopulated and covered by thick tropical island vegetation on its topside, this peaceful, untouched little bit of paradise is ringed by an endless pure white sandy beach, offering simply elegant and exquisite accommodation in all 23 wooden, roomy and perfectly appointed seafront chalets. While the ideal destination for those who search for tranquility and relaxation in a virgin natural setting and for families with children, Lankayan Island is also becoming one of the hottest diving destinations on the map today: its dive sites – all just a few minutes away – boasting unbelievably colorful macro, fauna, fascinating wrecks and in season from March to May, regular sightings of gigantic and harmless whale sharks, the “dream date ” of every diver in the world. Situated within the Sea Turtle Corridor, Lankayan Island is also a nesting place and foraging ground for sea turtles; most commonly Green and Hawksbill Turtle. Very Good
GGuest UserGloria Swiss is located near the airport so is very convenient. We got a two room family suite which was perfect for us. The rooms were clean and nice. The staff were very friendly and helpful.
AAiden LimI recently had the pleasure of staying at The Grand Hotel 2 in Sandakan, and I must say, it was a wonderfully comfortable experience.
It was spacious, clean, and tastefully decorated, with a modern design that added to the overall comfort. The bed was exceptionally comfortable, providing a great night’s sleep after a day of exploring the city.
Overall, my stay at The Grand Hotel 2 was very enjoyable.
GGuest UserBook for business trip & it's just a short stay.
For me, not the best place for vacation.
Got club nearby where the music can be loud.
Room is quite clean and spacious
The staff quite helpful
GGuest UserNice appartment on the ninth floor of a flatbuilding in a condominium. The appartment is nicely decorated and offers room for many guests.. we couldn't find the pool, so we didn't use that.
When we got to the appartement there was nobody there, we sent a message and somebody came. after a very long waiting time. Then they could open the door so after an hour and a half we were able to get in. The next morning before waking up they already send a message about the check out. This stressed us. Had a nice stay but the management and chasing us out before eleven o 'clock was very bad service.
MmarymA great value option for a short stay in Sandakan. You need to get a grab taxi to the main part of town. The room was spacious but there was a bit of a smell. It was great to have air con for such a budget price. The Mubarak restaurant nearby is cheap and tasty. There's a supermarket across the road.
