"Serene place. Nearby beach, pretty sunset. There are still construction going on. Room is great, spacious, comfy bed, hot shower. The only downer is, very bad phone reception and zero wifi. Shame they have nice huge smart tv but cannot use. Service wise, very bad. There's an obvious double standard on local vs foreigner. Local are left to figure out where their room is - it's a sizeable resort, u will get exhausted if u have a lot of luggage, no map given too. When asked for direction, the receptionist just said ”belakang sana”, while white tourist get escorted to their front door.. And since phone connection is bad, u have to walk all the way to reception to ask for help..wifi not working, fridge not working, fan at verandah not working...pretty bad experince we're glad it's only a night stay."

"The paint on the wall has come off, causing trash on the floor and the toilet walls are not clean. No tv broadcast. There is no battery in the TV remote."

"I was looking for a getaway from the city, so I chose this Shangri-La in the suburbs. I initially thought a hotel opened in 2015 might show its age, but to my surprise, the facilities were much better maintained than I expected. The room was very clean. The views were impeccable, though it was a bit of a shame that it turned cloudy every afternoon during my stay, so I missed the sunset. As soon as I entered the lobby, I felt the strong Christmas atmosphere. The Ocean Wing has its own dedicated check-in and breakfast area. Room service was just okay. The breakfast selection wasn't vast, but the food tasted good. The service was excellent; every staff member I encountered greeted us. For both check-in and check-out, we were assisted by FU, who was incredibly patient and answered all our questions."

"I've visited Kota Kinabalu three times, and on every single occasion, I've chosen to stay at this family-run water chalet. My first two visits were back in 2019, and then I stopped traveling abroad because of the pandemic. A lot has changed, but the original charm and atmosphere are still very much present. Even the 'no smoking' signs have weathered beautifully, showing the passage of time. The restaurant I used to love and look forward to is no longer operating; the owner leased the space, and it's now a Thai restaurant. However, they kindly recommended Jiayang Seafood Restaurant nearby, which turned out to be excellent. The food quality was great, and it offered fantastic value for money. The original owner has retired, and his son has taken over, but the warm hospitality and thoughtfulness remain. The entire family are wonderful people. Since the owner (the son) is ethnically Chinese, you can count on him to help resolve any issues you might encounter, which is incredibly reassuring and heartwarming. It's true that the guesthouse shows its age; some areas, especially the bathrooms, are a bit dated. However, the owner mentioned plans for a major renovation, which I'm really looking forward to! Many people use this place as a transit point for mangrove tours, but honestly, even if you're not just passing through, it's a wonderfully comfortable destination in itself. You can soak in the beautiful scenery, relax and clear your mind, and indulge in delicious local food. Plus, there's a vibrant food street nearby with incredibly reasonable prices. The grilled coconut is a unique treat, and the coconut pudding is absolutely divine – truly the best I've ever tasted! I genuinely can't wait to visit again!"

"We stayed at the seafront pool villa. Location was excellent in front of the beach, with sunset view. The morning was peaceful. We absolutely loved the private pool quite spacious, they also have children pools. Self-check in was easy & convenient. Otherwise, cleanliness is acceptable. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay at BBV, spacious villa with private pool."
