Stayed only one night but I wanted more. Unit is clean and warm - very comfortable super king size bed, good shower＆equipped kitchen. Great view of the sea. One small criticism - the TV is too high and too small for the size of the room. You had to sit in the dining chair under it to see or hear.

We had been held up with flights and did not get there till nearly midnight. The owners had left the key in the door, lights on and a lovely note welcoming us and giving us a map of the area, tide times for the next day and wifi password. Throughout our stay they were friendly and helpful with advice and local knowledge. Would definitely stay there again.

I loved our stay at Surate Bay Lodge, it was an absolute gem during our time in the Catlins and a highlight of our South Island holiday. Quirky accommodation right on the edge of a wild and woolley stretch of coast. A short stroll through the back garden takes you onto the waters edge of an inlet and after a couple of minutes walk along the beach we discovered slumbering sea lions. Loved it. Will remember Ester's friendly welcome, her 22 girls (hens), coffee cart with transistor radio at the gate. The lodge was clean and had a lovely homely a**osphere. Kitchen and lounge nice cosy spaces to relax in with views out to the inlet and surf beyond. Free range eggs were lovely. Would definitely stay again. Sue and Lisa
