After a mix up with dates, another one ‘booked’ with *******, but on arrival there was no room! I desperately needed a room for myself and my elderly mother. Saturday 13th August was hot and there was a carnival, Clacton was packed. All hotels were fully booked. It was either this or sleeping in the car! I had seen this earlier in the day on ***********, asking for £270!!! I therefore thought it was a top hotel. Due to the circumstances I didn’t have time to read reviews, look at facilities/amenities etc. All of which I do usually. I called and the gentleman said there was one room left but I’d have to come quick. This was already nearly 8pm. I asked to see the room - it wasn’t great but what is one to do. He wanted £150! I was shocked and he said I could have it for £130 in cash. I couldn’t let mum sleep in the car. You could hardly sit on toilet as small sink unit was in way. Difficult for my mum who is frail. There were/dirty marks on bathroom door, I didn’t want to look too closely. Tbh - I have stayed in cleaner hostels! One side of bed was against a wall, so I had to crawl in and out. Pulling the curtains at bedtime……. I thought they were about to disintegrate. They were=disgusting. The carpet was dirty. It was truly awful. It didn’t look promising upon arrival really but I had no other options. On entering this establishment it stank of curry, a man was sat on sofa opposite door, can of beer in hand. To get to the room, we had to walk through a dim corridor, past an area where presumably the owners sat, chatted and ate. I have no idea but it was grim! The door of the room DID NOT EVEN BLOODY CLOSE! We realised as we were changing and it suddenly swung open!! I had to lock my mother inside the room while I got bags from the car! Ridiculous. It wouldn’t even meet 2star standard. I simply cannot believe that such an establishment can trade legally for crying out loud. They/should be ashamed for having people there. Truly awful. The bed and pillow very uncomfortable and all night long a cacophony of seagulls, computer noises, people chatting. Paper thin walls.
