YHA Eskdale

Hostel and staff were fine, socket positions and introduction of bunk curtains in dorms would be useful

This was a delightful overnight stay. The manager and his team were friendly, welcoming and very helpful. Breakfast was delivered individually and cooked to order and was of an excellent standard. We hired a eight-bed dorm for the two of us and it was comfortable and clean. Fortunately, the hostel was largely unoccupied and so the atmosphere was congenial without feeling the need to talk to everyone. A crackling log fire was burning away and it was heaven. The beer was much appreciated, too. This is hostelling at its best: well done YHA.

Booked as a very last minute trip with a last minute day off and the sight og good weather. Turned up on Sunday evening, was quickly booked in and everything sorted. Great self-catering kitchen and goodn facillities for doing your own cooking. Staff super-helpful and good atmosphere with fellow walkers discussing routes! Great nice sleep, and got a superb day on the hills the following day. Been a while since I'd hostelled, and Eskdale was great traditional experience with bargain prices, and good company reafy for a day on the hills.

Great location , staff were super friendly , food was excellent .. sold bottles of beer and it was fairly priced . Only down side is the parking facilities are really bad .. one of our guys got his car damaged .. it’s too tight and we were constantly helping edge each other out .. no need as plenty of space to enlarge it . But I would def go back .. as I said staff were fantastic .. thank you .

This YHA is a proper treasure! A glorious building in a beautiful part of the world, with excellent amenities and super friendly staff. We’d recommend it 100%! We stayed in a comfy and cosy Landpod, waking to beautiful views of the fells every morning. The self catering kitchen was one of the biggest we’ve ever found at a YHA, with plenty of room for everyone, even though the hostel was full. And everything was immaculately clean. Showers were hot, very clean, and powerful! Evening meals from the hostel are fine, there’s a good range of beer and wine on sale, games to borrow in the sitting room, and a decent pub within very easy walking distance if you’d rather eat/drink out (the pizzas were great!) Thanks especially to Rachel who went out of her way to make sure we had a great stay, providing lots of tips and ideas for us to enjoy our break. YHA places are always special, but the staff make them even better! We enjoyed days out at the waterfalls, at Hardknott Roman Fort, swimming in the beautiful pools up the Esk, and paddleboarding on Wastwater (boards can be hired from West Lakes Adventure which is next to the pub!) Oh, and the WiFi (which is mentioned in lots of other reviews!) is reliable and fast enough for browsing, and definitely not worth complaining about! Thanks team Eskdale, we had a brilliant time and will be back!

Very friendly and helpful staff. Clean facilities. Beautiful surroundings. Wonderful bird feeder with a red squirrel and variety of birds.

Fantastic location. Cat on reception was very helpful. We had a meal which was excellent and also breakfast which was spot on. We were there the same time as the music festive so that was a bonus Also being on motorbikes it was great to be able to ride hardknott Pass thanks guys

Fantastic place, lovely staff and a beautifully kept nature reserve. Lots of bird song and red squirrels. We wish we could have stayed longer. We stayed in both a room and landpod and both provided a lovely nights accomodation.

What can I say. This is youth hosteling at its finest. First class service in good old YHA accommodation. Great breakfast, great location. Wi-fi is weak, but not unexpected in remote mountain locations. I stayed for 4 nights in late May 2023 with a group from Ayr, Scotland. I had superb walking up Green Crag, Harter Fell and Sca Fell amongst others.
