Booked 2 night stay B&B in exec double. Arrived 12.30, no lunch available. Nice lunch at nearby Adamson Hotel. Room and ensuite bathroom clean and comfortable bed. Shower luke warm only and low pressure. Reserved table for evening meal first night. Sirloin steaks were a cheap cut, tough, full of gristle and almost inedible. Accompanying veg luke warm and all served on cold plates. Complained to waiter with little acknowledgement. Thoughts on lack of food quality and service were acknowledged by other diners. Breakfast on first morning, not greeted on arrival, service almost non existent, the few staff engaging in conversation with each other rather than attending to guest requirements. Continental - poor and very limited choice of cereal, breads, fruit and cold meats. Cooked food - Poached eggs hard boiled, black pudding like rubber, bacon soggy, steamed and tough. Hot buffet only luke warm on cold plates. No tea or coffee offered on arrival or at our table, had to look for a member of staff to request tea/coffee pots. Coffee when provided was weak, luke warm and tasteless. We dined elsewhere on our second evening owing to the poor quality of the food offered. Second day breakfast - additional staff in attendance, although similar limited food on offer. Staff slow to clear dirty plates and cutlery as previous. Summary - Not to the high standard one would expect from a Best Western hotel. Evidence particularly in the dining room of cost cutting and poor or no staff training and a lack of quality as a result. Larger choice and better quality for continental and hot breakfasts desirable. This appears to be as a result of a management issue focused on cutting cost at the expense of quality. Hotel in a lovely location currently let down by a lack of adherence to the high standards expected from a Best Western hotel.
