I booked a three night stay at the Pucic Palace for me, my wife, and our daughter. We were there in low season (March). I had originally booked a Deluxe Suite for four nights as the Family Room (only one in the house) was not available and the Deluxe Suite could take a rollaway bed. Our plans changed, so I changed the reservation to be for three nights, and at that time I was able to book the Family Room. The description for the Family Room is "Distinctive elegance of traditional design with modern features. Family room consists of two separate bedrooms, each with its private bathroom. Master bedroom features a king size bed while the second room has a smaller double bed." The day before we left the US for Croatia, via Germany, there were nationwide strikes called by Lufthansa ground crew and the German rail unions. We knew we wouldn't be able to get to Dubrovnik on our arrival date. I emailed the hotel and they said no problem, our room would be waiting for us on arrival. I was hoping they'd say they wouldn't charge me, but they didn't. That's fine; it's not their fault. When we arrived, we were shown to two separate rooms: one with a king bed and another with the double bed. The rooms were not separated off from the hallway, so I took the room with the smaller bed and assumed that there was no such thing as a family room...just two separate rooms each with their own key. The rooms were very nice and the location was absolutely amazing. I believe we were the only guests in the hotel during our stay, and it felt like we were among a very small number of people in the town itself. We had wine in the cafe, and the servers there were absoutely amazing. Each morning, we took breakfast in the cafe and ordered eggs, french toast and more. Great service all around in the cafe, at the front desk, and from housekeeping. On the morning of our last stay, I walked down the hallway a bit and noticed that all of the rooms' doors were blocked open a bit. I checked other floors, same thing. On the floor benath ours (floor 1), there was a guest room door that I pushed open and behind it was two more doors...I'd found the Family Room. I didn't enter any of the rooms. At checkout, I asked if I had been given a Family Room, the room that I had booked and prepaid for. I was told that no, it was not the Family Room. They had upgraded us to a room with a better view...one floor higher. I was honestly upset that we had spent two nights in separate rooms. I wish that the 'upgrade' were explained and I was given the chance to pick which configuration we wanted. I corresponded with the hotel after I left. They were very apologetic, and I accept that apology. They should have communicated better, but I should have asked sooner. I doubt that we will make it to Dubrovnik again, but I would stay at this hotel again in a heartbeat. I can't imagine any place better inside the walls.
