Exceptional. Croatia was our 50th country visited, so we have stayed in lots of hotels around the world. While the reviews of Berkeley Hotel and Spa were very good, we did not realise how much of a gem this place is. We came here with high expectations, and they were exceeded. Location: In Gruz, so away from the busier Old Town. But there's a bus stop two minutes walk away from the hotel, so you can get to Old Town very easily. Especially if you have the Dubrovnik Pass which includes most buses in the city. We used the number 8 bus most days, to get to Ploce Gate and Pile Gate. It also stops at the Cable Car station if you want to go up to Mount Srd. If you are coming from the airport, the airport shuttle bus stops at the main bus station in Gruz, which is either a ten minute walk from the hotel (slightly uphill), or you can wait for the number 8 bus at the station and get taken to the bus stop outside the hotel (it's one stop, and if you don't already have the Dubrovnik Pass a single bus ride costs 2 Euros - cash accepted on the bus). The other things to say about location are 1) plenty of cafes and restaurants nearby, and 2) there are a couple of supermarkets (Studenac and Konzum) within walking distance of the hotel, so it's easy to pick up any groceries. I did read that tap water is fine to drink here, but we stuck to bottled water. Rooms: modern well apportioned rooms, with comfortable beds, kettle, fridge, safe, TV with multiple international channels, balcony, air conditioning, large shower, toiletries. We thought the rooms had been carefully designed with travellers needs' in mind. Plenty of cupboard space, chairs, tables, a desk, USB port. A sofa that pulls out to be a third bed if needed. Note that the fridge is not your usual mini/tinybar. It's a full size fridge. Useful for all those supermarket groceries! Breakfast: buffet breakfast served from 700 to 1030, and plentiful. Tea, coffee, juices, yogurts, fruit, nuts, cereals, breads, waffles, pastries, omelette, spring rolls, grilled vegetables, cheese, meats. All the staff were very friendly and welcoming, and we must mention they went to great lengths to provide us with breakfast bags one day when we had a 630 tour departure. Other: four floors, and it's a small boutique hotel with about 7 rooms on each floor. Lift, Luggage room if you need to store bags between check out and your departure time. There is also a pool but it was not yet open during our stay.
