We have used this pub for years with different managers and this guy is by far the worst yet, in fact the wort manager of any bar i have ever drank in. I live half a mile away so this is easy to walk to but i will now walk past and avoid the place while this man is here. He is not a people person and is very very rude and insulting to customers

Was out for the day in Durham with our dog and called in the Garden House on the spur of the moment as we had herd it had re opened. So pleased we did good cheap drinks, nice value food and dog friendly, The manage Andy and his staff could not do enough to make us feel at home. We enjoyed a lovely meal and nice drinks. Good choice from the bar for both drinks and food. Also has an amazing garden.

We tried this place after we heard about the new management and opening, we thought it was great with good food and drinks at amazing price’s! 3rd visit on a Friday night was terrible, bar full of county hall staff on a party, told the manager and just shrugged his shoulders, Next thing was the prices have gone up on the drinks, 40p a pint the manager said but it was 50p on moreti! Jäger had nearly doubled in price also. Our meal which we had to sit in the restaurant for because of the noise was plain and missing our nan breads which we received after 10 minutes! Conclusion New management in and cheap prices but they were wrong prices after 3 weeks he said 🤷‍♂️. Bad management and service so we won’t return

Now under new management, Andy and his team are doing a great job. Andy and Sara served our food and drinks, which arrived promptly . The food which was delicious which was prepared by chef Pearl. Food and drink are very reasonably priced, and the pub itself has a welcoming and warm atmosphere. The staff are very friendly and I would I highly recommend visiting here.

Tried this tonight and impressed with the new management. A couple of decent beers at reasonable prices, pub food at pub food prices. Appears to be home cooked with decent portions. Service was good and properly dog friendly! I think this may revert back to being my preferred local!

Great welcome, cosy but spacious atmosphere. Superbly fresh Thai chicken and vegetable rolls with soy and honey dip, and excellent triple cooked chips. Excellent house Malbec too, as recommended by Sara. Service is spot on. Thoroughly recommend this!

The food is amazing and there is a lovely friendly vibe. Really quality pub food (honestly the best I've found in Durham), great service, and lovely cozy atmosphere. We also got to try the rice paper rolls with soy and honey sauce, which were excellent.

I've been for a meal with my family at the garden house today, we had a mixture of beef and turkey, the food was delicious, moist meet and lovely home made gravy, the only thing was the plates seemed tiny so I felt like I was piling my plate like some kind of jenga game. The girl that sat me down was lovely, I quizzed her on the wine choices, considering it was her first week she ran off and found out exactly what I asked. The other staff also seemed attentive and pleasant. Haven't been for years but will happily be returning

Turned up 12oclock - would have thought the music would have been on for Atmos for early birds like us, family with toddler.. lovely greeting by bar staff but seemed we were too early as still getting stuff sorted and the sound was so dead (lit no music till about 20 mins from been in) We were seated and given menus, placed order for two chicken burger chips and childs chicken *****s and fries like it said on menu .. this came and our little girl just had plate of chicken *****s which was just the fried chicken burger cut up! I had to ask where the fries were to go with the Meal to be told there isn’t any .. although it was on the menu with fries! So the lady went and got some after having to ask the chief if this was ok!! Our burgers were crap - fried chicken on a bun with butter on and some lettuce but all I could taste was butter off the bun! Thick Chips and fries were nice but the taste was just pure FRIED IN FAT.. then ordered little one brownie and Icecream - asked for vanilla but got chocolate and the brownie was just over cooked slop but I still finished it off abs toddler enjoyed it. Defo gone down hill, nothing remotely fresh or nice about these meals apart from lettuce! Worst £35 we have spent !
