I was shocked by how awful this was.I have booked budget before but nothing like this.It was a last minute double room.We had to phone and wait to get in.The room was up a dingy staircase with worn carpets at the back of the building overlooking a hideous yard area..Decor and furniture was old and shabby. The room was small with a tired, rusty looking metal bed frame and the curtains literally hanging off the rails with missing curtain hooks. The dark red carpet looked 1950s and as if it had never been cleaned.Bathroom totally unmodernised.the sheets looked clean but that was it I'm afraid.I felt so depressed we decided to stay up the road. This has never happened before.Sorry guys but the favourable reviews on the site wer totally misleading. It was cheap,£79, so maybe this particular room was not usually used.Never again.

Booked ,but cancelled same day as vendor would not allow check-in after 18:00. Do not book if there is any possibility of arriving late as vendor will not accommodate your needs. She was infact quite rude as when I said I was travelling from 2 hours away and might hit traffic, she said just cancel then.

To start with the "managers" Pete and Lisa smells heavy smoke, like the rest of The Sherwood!! The worse is that the heating system rattle it sounds terrible and the toilets sounds like a war zone even from the other guest rooms it all woke us up several times!! During our Pub visit at The Stage Door we started to talk with a plumber that have done several jobs at The Sherwood he told us "dont drink the water there" the pipes from the attic are very old lead pipes!! The boiler he said is at least 25 years old and the whole systems needs to be replaced thats why it rattles. The location is great and we are sure the place was very nice some years ago! BUT NEVER AGAIN for us!

To start with the location is good. BUT then all the problems start! Rude staff Pete and Lisa. I.m not sure why they are in the business at all!! The smell in the lounge and the bedroom stinks of smoke. We got a feeling its a Half Way House as well as a normal Guest House! It just dosent feel right! Our 2 rooms looks nothing like the photos at Tripadvisor at all, just tatty! We stayed 1 night instead of 2 and moved in to a neighbour Guest House as is which so much better!!! We seen a lot during our trips but nothing like The Sherwood its just sad!!

I recently stayed at the sherwood hotel to see family and friends but was absolutely SHOCKED by the lack of care shown within the hotel. Me and my boyfriend had just come back to the hotel after a day out in Eastbourne and noticed a weird smell, we went through the living room and dining room where we saw the OWNERS SON smoking **** with his friends. I didn’t know what to say or think as this shouldn’t even be allowed in the hotel especially with people passing through I didn’t understand it. But, this wasn’t even the worst thing that happened as we had also noticed that our bed was broken and there was cockroaches everywhere!!! I cannot believe that they’re still running the hotel. DISGUSTING I will not be coming back. I have contacted environmental health control as I am concerned for everyone that has stayed here and they will be in touch!!!

This was not a good experience for us. We came to stay for the weekend and on initial arrival everything was okay. The hotel is in a great location and the room was as expected, clean and fit for purpose. The toilet was occasionally difficult to flush but this was not a real issue and did flush eventually. The issues started Saturday afternoon with the lock, the lock on our hotel door broke. This in itself was fine, these things happen however it was the way in which it was dealt with which was the problem for us. The staff were unable to fix the lock that evening, we therefore had a hotel room that was essentially open to anyone. The staff were very abrupt and dismissive about the situation just telling us 'there was nothing he could do' without making any apology. We requested a door stop which was provided but we had to change our evening plans as we did not feel comfortable leaving our hotel room with an door open with all our stuff in it. It led to a very uncomfortable evening and night and made us feel extremely unsafe! The door lock was fixed the next day but absolutely no compensation, services or refund were offered to compensate for what was an extremely stressful and inconvenient situation. I'm sure had the lock not broken or we had been appropriately compensated we would have had an okay time here and would feel the price that was paid equated to the experience.

Stayed there a few years ago during the Eastbourne tennis week as it’s convenient for access to the tournament. Went back recently (2022) and It has changed ownership. We were generally disappointed. Received a friendly welcome but found the room not up to the standard we experienced on our previous visit. Bed extremely uncomfortable leading to very patchy sleeps. Coffee and tea facilities not replenished at any time plus the suggestion of an extra charge for housekeeping is very disappointing to say the least. Won’t be going back again.

My wife and I stayed here for a night as we were attending the reggae festival. It was very close - fantastic location in the heart of everything. The hosts were amazing and great, helpful communication before our stay. The room was big, clean and comfortable. We slept well. Would be good to have more plug sockets as we had nowhere near to the bed to plug our phones/ alarms. Also the curtains were thin and let a lot of light in and the toilet paper was cheap considering the room was almost £80. Other than that everything was amazing and we would definitely stay here again

I stayed at The Sherwood with my mum. We had the family room and found it very lovely. It was a comfortable, clean and spacious room. Peter cooked us an amazing breakfast each morning. The location was great. With beautiful sea views. Would definitely recommend.
