I eventually did not stay at Blue Mountain Lodge!! On our arrival we found a padlock on the gate. Phoned a landline telephone nr - without success. There were NO communication between myself and the Lodge beforehand.

It was a pleasant stay. The location is great and peaceful. The drive from the gate to the lodge can be a challenge for cars with low suspension especially after rain. We enjoyed the hospitality and the food. The rooms are also nice. The only things we were not happy about was not changing the sheets after the first night and the fact that they don't have a security at the gate. The network is very poor when there is loadshedding so you can't call before arriving at the gate so that they can come and open. We got stuck at the gate for some time as a result.

This hotel is nestled in the hills with expansive views, and huge secured grounds. The buildings and rooms are sumptuous, and the historic buildings have been beautifully modernized, maintaining the character and feel of the grandeur of the past. The dining is excellent and the chef takes personal interest in each diner, creating fabulous (healthy) food … the avocado chocolate mousse is the richest creamiest mousse I have ever tasted. The staff attended to every request with smiles and joy. A highly recommended restful destination … definitely worth spending a few days rather than using as a stopover!! Lucy and I had a fabulous stay!

Having stayed at the lodge 16 years ago and being enchanted by the location, serenity and hospitality, we decided to take a family visit to indulge in precious time together in a location which held special memories. Unfortunately, the passage of time has not been kind and the genteel old dwelling is looking somewhat dilapidated and tired. Access is gained via a somewhat white-knuckle ride down a fairly long dirt road, and while the beaming smiles of the few on-site staff members were very welcoming, it soon became apparent that website images are very out of date. The newly arrived managers and their limited staff went out of their way to address various housekeeping issues, and their service was friendly and genuine, however, the lack of interest and attention shown by the new owner was frustrating and not what is expected at a supposed 5 star resort charging 5 star prices. The food was by no means exceptional or to the standard advertised, although there was plenty of it! The rooms and beds were comfortable and the old-school charm of the place is still apparent, but overall we left feeling very disappointed that our 'luxury' escape was anything but.

Most shocking experience. This is NOT a 5 star property barely makes a 3 star. Staff are friendly but management is shocking. Room smelled, dirty carpets, there was no basics like bottled water or anything in the fridge in the room. Dinner of R450 per head was a complete rip off. No turn down. No generator for load shedding.

What an absolute nightmare of a trip. This destination is definitely NOT 5 star. The food which is described as "fine dining" for R450 a head was a corn soup which tasted like cold porridge to start, a chicken breast the size of a baby potato stuffed with cream cheese and two carrots and a bit of mash and dessert was an old, cold and stale cheesecake. The WIFI was not working. There was no kettle for the minimal amount of tea bags left in the room. The coffee machine had to be used on the floor as it did not reach a plug. The bathrooms had no soap. The mini bar was not stocked. The signs around the place had been sticky taped on walls, printed in black and white and looked like it had been done by a 3rd grade scholar. When we expressed our dissatisfaction, we were told that this is merely our opinion and this establishment is five star. When we showed other bad reviews they told us that we should not listen to other people. After much disgust with the service and facilities that were provided, the owner told us she had given us a discount on the room. On our confirmation email, the room was R3k per a night before any discount (standard rate). Once we went to check-out, the owner hid away and made someone else deal with us. They told us that the rooms had been discounted from R4 500 a night to R3 000. When we showed our confirmation email we got accused of lying. After refusing to pay the full price as it was daylight robbery, they called a security guard with no uniform, locked the main gate so that we could not leave and said he had called the police. In the end, we paid the bill and left as we were not actually sure what there intentions were and were highly vulnerable being it just my mother and myself (two females). I am utterly disgusted with my experience and will never recommend Blue Mountain Lodge to anyone.

I would like to compliment Liza and her small team for providing exemplary service under adverse conditions. It is evident the the lodge whilst being marketed as 5 star is not at this level. I understand that COVID has severely impacted hospitality however it is essential that honesty prevails around the present conditions of the place you visiting so that customers expectations can be managed.

I wish to thank Liza who tried her bet to make our stay as comfortable as possible. It is evident that the place requires alot of maintenance and attention. Electricity, wifi and water issues. Will not return
