Mhondoro Safari Lodge & Villa

I cannot recommend Mhondoro enough. The views from our room and while on Safari were stunning. The attention to detail and service from staff is unmatched. We loved every meal and have never felt so relaxed. Our guide Hein was really knowledgable and made the game drives fun while keeping us feeling safe. Our stay was unforgettable and we hope to be back very soon.

An amazing trip! The Welgevonden Game Reserve is well managed, has to be the best Rhino sightings in South Africa. The entire Mhondoro team is excellent, the food and accommodation are top class. Special thanks to Nella, Isac and the team for their kindness and making our anniversary special. Also to Hein for answering all our questions and all the extra effort in making our game drives enjoyable! We would love to visit again!

The property itself is stunning, but our stay was made so special by the beautiful team. The team at Mhondoro were so personable, friendly and efficient, nothing was too much trouble. The food is AMAZING, everything we had was perfection. Unfortunately I only had time for one spa treatment but it was so relaxing. The game drives were icing on the cake, a fantastic guide and some incredible wildlife encounters. I could carry on forever but I think you get the gist, LOVE everything about Mhondoro.

We've spent 7 Days at the lodge, because we went for a Photo safari. And we had such a blast. The crew is just awesome, the lodge is beautiful and the location astonishing. The food is delicious and verything else is just great.

I just returned from a 4-day visit in April and have spent the past week dealing with a severe case of post-holiday blues. This location is just incredible! It was my first journey to South Africa and my first-ever safari adventure. To be honest, I was a bit apprehensive about the whole safari thing and came as a 40th birthday treat for myself and a couple of friends, to push myself beyond my known boundaries since I've had a lifelong fear of animals. All I can say is that it turned out to be the most memorable and best experience I've ever had, and I'm already planning a repeat visit. The lodge was fantastic, the staff made us feel like we were part of their family, and the food was absolutely delicious! The drives were the highlight of the trip, made even more enjoyable by our amazing guides (a special shout out to Michael for keeping us informed and entertained throughout). I would also highly recommend a visit to the spa while you're there - their massages are the best and come with amazing views. Don't hesitate to book this place... you can thank me later. A big thank you to Mhondoro... what an adventure... can't wait to see you guys again soon!

Mhondoro is a place of quiet luxury and the ultimate safari experience. The reserve, lodge, room, people, guides and animals were amazing. It is almost an insult to stay it was 5 star as it was more than this, I simply had the best time and hope to be lucky enough to return at some point. I would recommend Mhondoro to everyone, it is a cut above and you will not be disappointed.

Whilst we only left yesterday we are already missing Mhondoro very much. We loved every minute of our stay and it was wonderful to have the opportunity to spend such a special experience with our two teenage children who enjoyed it as much as us. Special thanks go to all the staff who made our holiday extra special, we felt like friends as well as guests as our every need was catered for. The family suite we had was beautiful, to have two bathrooms was an unexpected bonus, both complete with outside showers. The food was delicious, varied and more than plentiful, our butlers were really, really fantastic and are a credit to Mhondoro. Our ranger Biggie was a standout, his enthusiasm and knowledge made our stay a once in a life time experience. Always first and closest to the action, but instinctively knowing when patience was needed to wait it out. To have the knowledge of David Attenborough, the driving skills of Lewis Hamilton, combined with the coffee making skills of the best barista is a rare combination of talents and to do it all with the biggest smile on his face and the total joy he has in his work was infectious. Biggie’s special morning coffee is something I’ll miss! He was also really great with our kids and they have made memories to last a lifetime. The staff at the lodge also went out of their way to make my 50th birthday extra special. Whilst this was a bucket list, once in a lifetime, holiday we’re already looking to see how soon we can come back.

We had the most wonderful time at Mhondoro! We came as a family with two children - 9 and 11. Everyone made the experience special and unique, from the food to the small touches (like a present for my daughter on her birthday, the bonfire and bbq night, and sundowners on safari) to the pool with the visiting elephant to the wonderful family room we stayed in. Biggie was our guide and was wonderful and so so so knowledgable. The Reserve is beautiful and a very special place. Once in a lifetime. Thank you.
