We had a wonderful time at the Hotel Regency in Florence. The hotel and rooms are very much as pictured – elegant and refined. Clear difference was the service, which was just exceptional. The hotel is located on a quiet street, across from the Piazza D'Azeglio, a beautiful neighborhood park. The hotel is about a block from the Four Seasons Florence and a block from the Great Synagogue. It’s about a 15-minute walk to the Academia, Doumo and most of the other tourist attractions. That was a real positive for us as we felt we were in a local neighborhood and not in tourist central. We changed our booking from another hotel to the Hotel Regency and were only able to book the superior sized rooms. Despite them being the smallest room category, we still found them to be quite comfortable. There was more than enough room to open up two large sized suitcases, plenty of space to walk around the beds and still there was a small side table with two chairs. While the bathrooms seem to have original fixtures (looked to be 50-75 years old), they are remarkedly well maintained. The marble is beautiful and it’s clear the hotel emphasizes maintenance and upkeep. Breakfast is served each morning in a small sitting room or can be taken in the beautiful garden. The garden is quiet and gorgeous, but beware the birds are aggressive. The hotel staff is very active in trying to shoo away the birds, but it’s often with limited success. Instead, we preferred to eat inside most mornings. The food is a typical Italian continental breakfast (fruits, pastries, cured meats, cheeses, breads, juices) and then the additional scrambled eggs, sausage or bacon. Coffee, tea and juice are brought directly to the table. Everything is very high quality and tasty. I will note that over our 4 days at the hotel there wasn’t any change to the buffett, so I could see it getting boring after a while. I would be remiss if I didn’t point out the excellent service we received at the hotel. The concierge (doubles as front desk) helped arrange tickets for art galleries, tours, restaurants and Manuel at breakfast was always very helpful. Considerations: There is no gym at the hotel. The hotel did offer use (I believe it was at a small nominal charge) at a nearby facility. Additionally, there is no pool at the hotel, which given the scorching heat, would have been welcome. All in all, we would absolutely return to the hotel. It was a lovely location while totally accessible to any part of Florence. The service was impeccable and we had no complaints over our 4 days at the hotel.
