Hotel El Puerto by Pierre Vacances

This is an excellent hotel. Right on the sea front with great views out to sea. Room was very comfortable, shower was ok but toilet area was very small. Reception was very open and welcoming. Bar in reception area was great and staff were excellent. Breakfast was very nice and well worth the 11euro,s. Had an evening meal which again was excellent value at 14euro,s and plenty choice. Beach across the road is great. With lovely walk’s along the sea front. Just a short walk to the restaurants. Would recommend Lemonchello Would definitely use this hotel again

This is one of the worst hotels we have stayed in and more disappointed that this was promoted through a package holiday company. The air con didn’t work, didn’t go below 23.5 degrees. Allegedly maintenance took a look but nothing changed. Seems other reviews have had the same problem but it’s not being fixed. Very dirty rooms! The shower head was covered in limescale and was not cleaned all week. The shower tray is covered in mould and the sand wasn’t cleaned off the floor. We did, however, get clean towels every day which was good. They say they have had a recent renovation but I’m not sure where. There are paint chips all over the room, fixtures that aren’t up properly, walls not painted the same colour, no beside tables, holes in the curtains (which didn’t close all the way). Our bedroom door didn’t shut properly so you had to slam it. And you can hear everything people from other rooms are taking about, almost like they are in your room! This hotel is surrounded by birds every morning so be prepared to be up early each day. Think they are nesting on the hotel as they sounded like they were actually in the room. Don’t bother parking your car in the hotels car park. It is tiny and you would struggle to get a bigger car in there. The spaces are small, pillars everywhere so you can’t turn and the road down is tiny. Save your money and park for free on the surrounding streets. Reception are incredibly rude and unhelpful. When raising matters to them you are met with a blank expression. Our holiday rep helped us in the end but not all of the matters were resolved. There is only one elevator going to the sky bar which is so slow. We were hoping to get a picture at sunset but some kids who left the elevator had pressed every floor button so it was a really long wait for it to come. We got there just after 9pm because of the elevator and they wouldn’t let us take a picture as it was closed. The opening hours are all over for the sky bar it seems. This review may sound picky but take note of all the bad reviews, they all say the same thing. Pay a little bit extra for something better so you can enjoy your holiday.

Pros: The hotel location is perfect, so close to the beach and shops. The hotel was very clean and quiet generally, didn't hear any noise from other rooms or the outside. Meals were cheap but lots of options very close to hotel too. Suitcase storage available and a few different late check out options. Storage in the room was good. Maid service excellent. The shower was great. Lucky with room view - could see the beach from the side. The sky bar and pool area is nice but I didn't consider how windy it would be up there! Food blowing around (not the hotel's fault, just a side note for visitors weather dependent). Cons: Reception staff were generally a bit unhappy seeming, no "service with a smile", very much a state what you need and they'll do it but there was no particular good service about it. Except Yolanda(?) I think her name was at meal times in the resteraunt, she was very pleasant and worked very hard. Waiting for lifts was quite annoying at busier times, there were only 3 lifts for a 16 floor building. Limited bathroom privacy, just some frosted glass right next to the bed. Very small rooms, the food at breakfast and dinner was OK, had a few things I found inedible which isn't like me as I'm not fussy at all and the food was lukewarm at best. Canapés and some desserts not labelled. The beds were very hard and uncomfortable. The pool was very cold and quite far away from where our room was so not convenient.

Everything about this hotel is of high quality. I experienced two exceptions: During my visit, the rooftop pool was out of action. I don't know why but it had been prominent in the pictures and description of the hotel; And on the last day, I was publicly scolded for trying to open a door I didn't know was locked to store my luggage. That said, I'd highly recommend this hotel, especially for it's proximity to the sea, it's centrality in the town, and as a gateway to the surrounding areas.

Hotel is in a good beachfront location, 5-10 minute walk from bus and train station. Rooms are clean with daily housekeeping. Rooms do not have a kettle, only one english tv channel, which is a news channel. The bathroom consists of a sink within the room and a glass door with a toilet and shower behind it, no room to move! Apart from that we did have a pleasant stay.

Main attraction was rooftop pool and bar which we were told was closed due to renovation. Also extensive renovation meant that only 1 lift was operative so had to walk up and down from fofth floor
