Hotel Girassol - Suite Hotel

Absolutely loved the hotel for the following reasons: Very clean. Good location (not far into town and bus stop outside) Various different offerings for breakfast to suit all tastes. Really helpful staff. Toiletries in the bathroom. Separate living area to bedroom. Would suggest it suits couples rather than families as there weren’t many young families there.

I have no idea how this hotel is 4 star, completely overgraded. The main let down is the food. It is at best average and I would definitely not ever go for all inclusive like we did. All inclusive does not include the additional restaurant, you still pay extra for that. Breakfast very average , certainly no lovely omelettes like you might regularly see at many 4 star all inclusive. It really is just like a below average school canteen. But it is the lunch and evening meal that is biggest let down, minimal choice, often cold, very badly cooked tough pieces meat and unappetising fish, no decent salad bar just a handful of salad options, minimal ice cream choice. The dining room cramped and dingy for an 11 floor large hotel. Only 2 lifts for 11 floors and tiny lift takes 2 people 2 suitcases and it’s full! Hotel needs a refurb and lowered to 3 star on food alone. Staff civil but apart from cleaners in rooms not over friendly or chatty. Rooms cleaned well that’s a positive. But don’t go here for anything more than bed and breakfast… lovely meals out in other restaurants as the meals here were such a disappointment unfortunately Worst all inclusive food in a hotel in over 30 years

Lovely hotel. Loved the large rooms with separate sitting area. Staff lovely and room cleaned daily. Fab location, 30 minute pleasant walk into Funchal. Hotel spotlessly clean. Food okay but my only criticism is that it could do with more vegetarian options. You can ask them to cook something but personally I felt a bit of a nuisance to ask, not that staff made me feel that way but they were so busy I didn't want yo ask so it would've been good if their had been a choice on the buffet, it wouldn't put me off staying again as everything else was lovely.

Great hotel. Have been many times. Great to go at Christmas and New Year. View from the roof at New Year of the Madeira Fireworks is amazing. Great position for both the town centre and the lido. Easy walking distance to both. Buses are just outside the hotel and fairly frequent. Staff are excellent and friendly. Always there to help and advise as necessary. Spa is excellent. Have used it a few times. It is fairly new. Having two swimming pools is great. The smaller adults only pool is slightly heated so better for swimming in. There is also a children's pool. Food is varied and very good. Having your own suite is great. Plenty of room. Just feels like having your own flat. The higher rooms have the best views.

Hotel was well situated, close to many restaurants, short walk down to coast and close to bus stop. Easy walk into Funchal. We had bed and breakfast, rooms cleaned daily, not intrusive. Nice to have separate sitting area next to bedroom. Food was ok - typical hotel breakfast buffet, would have preferred a few more vegetarian options. 2 outdoor pools, water cold at end of January. Small spa, massages very good and reasonable cost. Some entertainment in the evening

A pleasant hotel in good location. Our room was always clean and fresh. All staff were pleasant and attentive. Food was adequate but a little disappointing - modest choices and the cheese board in particular was poor with never more than two options.

Excellent hotel . Couldn’t fault it . Great location for a peaceful and chilled break . Turn left as you go out of the hotel for a lovely cafe / bar which was ridiculously cheap . Plenty of bars and restaurants ( with great food ) but not noisy at all at night . Tourist menus were really good value for money . The hotel was spotless, breakfast was plentiful and delicious , staff attentive and pleasant and although chilly , the pool area was lovely . Even had a dip . Highly recommend for a relaxing break. Great base for hop on hop off bus.

We wanted to try something new so decided to try Maderia and go All inclusive. Having searched all the tour providers we settled on Jet2 and the Hotel Girassol. We had read some reviews prior to our arrival and had some reservations as to what the experience was going to be like. I have to say I have not a single thing to say negative about the hotel, the staff and the facilities. The staff are superb and go above and beyond to make your stay as stress free as possible. Service with a smile. They are efficient and friendly and I did not come across a single member of staff who was did not live up to this high standard of customer service. The rooms were clean and the daily maid service was exceptional. On the food front Breakfast had all the main things you would want for breakfast and bearing in mind that this is an international hotel the brands may not be the ones you are familiar with in the UK but non the less there are many different options available for you to try…both the familiar and the not so familiar. Lunch by the pool is ample and varied and served with the slick customer service that you become familiar with when staying at the Girassol. Every night dinner is themed and offers a variety of styles of dish from that theme. As it is a buffet you can have as much or as little as you want and seconds and thirds are always on offer. On thing to mention….the speed at which the staff clear away your used and dirty plates has to be seen to be believed…..I would at the average time between a plate being finished with and it being cleared is measured in seconds. I could go on and on but there was nothing I could find wrong with our stay and the position of the hotel was just right for us…..Short walk into Funchal
