Imperial Hotel Galway

No compensation of shampoo and body sope despite of my favor for two days. Location is terribly perfect. Galway is one of the best city ever!

This hotel has suffered from loss of Business during Covid, like all hotels in Galway. Some have used Covid time to improve facilities, but not here. The hotel in general presented a gloomy, somewhat rundown atmosphere. This is sad as it is usually a bustling, lively, location full of locals and tourists. I hope it will recapture it's former glory.

Great location. Room was very clean but only had one small window which made it quite dark. Air conditioning was quite loud at times. Bed was VERY uncomfortable. Breakfast was a joke. There was a menu board outside the dining area offering various options, many of which were very tempting. I went for breakfast at 8.30, the ‘continental’ offering was a box of cereal from a multipack and ‘toast’ for which read bread warmed on a rotating rack. I had to hunt out a member of staff to get a cup of tea. The hot breakfast looked as if it had been cooked for at least an hour so I did not try any of it. When I asked to order one if the options from the menu board I was told, rather snappily, that those were not available. So I ate the warm cheap plastic bread and the box of cereal, drank the cup of tea and went to pay. Then I was informed that would be €14. I challenged that saying it was a rip-off and after discussion they waived the cost. It was extremely disappointing and I would argue misleading to see menu options advertised that did not seem to be available. The second morning I didn’t even bother, just got breakfast elsewhere. Overall I was not very impressed and I would not stay there again.

If you want a central hotel… this is it. Right in the true heart of Galway. Clean and spacious with friendly staff. Unfortunately this hotel is a bit detached from modern times when it comes to food and most especially….. coffee! I believe if this hotel invested in this area and brought food and beverages up to date…it would be booming.

You couldn’t get more “in the centre” than this comfortable hotel. Room was spotlessly clean with super comfy beds. Staff were friendly with a warm welcome. An ideal location for Galway’s many bars, restaurants and cafes. Would definitely stay here again.

Overall, the stay was great. The staff were helpful, communicative, and friendly. The rates were reasonable. The location was the best thing about this hotel. Visiting during the Christmas holidays, the parking was a major issue. We knew to expect off-site parking, but the directions to the parking were nonexistent on the website and Google Maps (and Apple Maps) led us down a wrong turn, then a closed street, and then to a parking site that was triple the cost and at least triple the distance from the hotel. The hotel staff were friendly and encouraged us to a closer, cheaper location but the trouble we had navigating to the parking made us want to leave the car where it was for our stay. Water pressure was low, and the noise level was high, but those were the few issues we had. The breakfast was wonderful, and our overall experience was positive.
