We stayed as a couple for three nights at the Hotel Schlafmeile Traunsee. It is a nice little hotel, but I was disappointed and shocked when I arrived because I had expected something completely different from the hotel's website. It is an old little house with an 80s feel, not the fancy modern hotel that it claims to be on the internet (green felt flooring and artificial flowers on the balcony, just to give you an impression...). I guess the price was relatively OK for the area (200 euros per person for 3 nights). The lady who apparently does everything in the house from cleaning the rooms to checking in guests to making breakfast didn't speak German very well, but she was really very friendly. The reception is apparently never manned, we checked in ourselves. The double room was tiny, no closet, the bathroom too small to turn around in. But it was clean. What I really missed: glasses/toothbrush cups in the bathroom and hooks to hang the towels on! The breakfast was OK, nothing special, packaged jams and Nutella, yogurt, fruit, cheese and sausage spread, orange juice. Nothing homemade, I got the impression that they were trying to save money here. Individual requests such as vegan milk substitutes were not taken into account. Plus points: The beds were comfortable and the location of the hotel is very good, supermarket, pharmacy, inns and hiking trails are within easy walking distance in just a few minutes. However, the bathing area on the lake is about 20 minutes by road. OK for a short trip, would probably book the Schlafmeile again, but more because of the lack of alternatives (there aren't many hotels in Ebensee) - and with lowered expectations.
