Novotel Gent Centrum

A very disappointing stay at Novotel Centrum. Pros - Location. You can't get a better location. Close to everything including lots of eateries at your doorstep. Cons: Customer service - the customer service was the worst I've experienced in a long time. The staff were disinterested and rude. We checked in and I came down to advise that there were no baby beds in the room even though we had requested them well in advance and in all correspondence with the hotel before arriving. I was greeted with 'Hi, are you checking in' by the same person who checked me in no more than five minutes earlier. I would have accepted this but it happened again the next time I approached the reception desk. It was not a busy period for the hotel. I was rudely told off for asking again when I came downstairs to double check a second baby bed was indeed coming as only one had been delivered to the room in the time between first enquiring. I also made another enquiry during our stay and the staff member said they would provide me the answer but never got back to me. Room The room itself was dark and very old. I didn't want to spend any time in there. The rooms haven't been updated for a very long time and due to this the room felt dusty and not very clean. When the baby beds did arrive, one was in good condition and the other was in a terrible state. The material keeping the bed together was ripped in a number of places and the mattress itself was basically split in half due to being folded up so many times. I understand that baby beds are complementary, but this was not acceptable. When the rooms were cleaned, they only did a very surface level clean. Things weren't replaced and not all the rubbish was collected. Amenities We paid for breakfast and there were enough options. The bar had a good selection of Belgium beers on offer. There is a swimming pool outside that looks maintained but there is no safety fence around it so if you're outside in the bar area or in fact anywhere in the entrance area of the hotel you have to watch your children as they may accidentally walk into the pool.
B&B Hotel Gent Centrum

It is a great hotel, but it can be a better one if it hire quality staff. The front desk staff ( chubby guy with a glasses ) is a bit rude, throwing my passport to the desk after confirming the details. That’s make me wonder whether Belgians are in general that unfriendly, especially unfriendly to asian like me?
Ibis Gent Centrum Opera

Location very central, if there is no construction site in front of the door and considerate guests are around one in the rooms, it is certainly also quiet. The bathroom was very narrow in the double room. Otherwise, everything is fine!
Getaway Studios Gent

The apartment layout is okay, and you can cook and eat. The disadvantage is that there is no free parking lot. There is a paid parking lot nearby, which costs more than 20 euros per night, which is a bit expensive.
Hotel Astoria Gent

Astoria is a very nice, family-run hotel on a quiet street a short walk from the train station. The tram stop to the city center is near the train station. All of the hotel staff was very welcoming and friendly, probably the nicest of any of the places we stayed on our trip. The hotel has a very nice breakfast buffet including freshly made warm items. There is a screened porch and a lovely garden where you can enjoy your breakfast or drinks/snacks. There is a nice honor bar with beer, wine, coffee, tee cold drinks and even some home-made pasta dishes that can be heated for a quick dinner. The rooms are nicely furnished and comfortable. There was no air conditioning in our room, but there were large windows with screens to open. The hotel is near to the train tracks, so be aware if you are sensitive to city noise. This did not bother us. I would definitely stay here again.
Ibis Gent Centrum St. Baafs Kathedraal

quite far from the train station but close to attractions. a rather old hotel. the door locks are the round shaped ones. the hot water supply of the shower was not quite steady. the room is quite small for europe i think. the plus side is they gave us the room well before the official check in time. we arrived at around 10:30 and they gave us the room right away. there is a free breakfast buffet as well (even my room choice is the most basic one).
