The Wordsworth Hotel

Over a course of 15 yrs we have stayed at The Wordsworh Hotel, either in the Ruskin Suite or De Quincy Suite which are both excellent with great views, however things have changed dramaically since the Inn Collection took over, the restaurant is no longer fine dining but more of a pub with carpet, and experienced staff who I feel are over qualified with such a 1 star setting, they must feel agrieved.The menu is aimed at a clientele who would be more at home in a Blackpool B AND B, so what are the Inn collection trying to achieve half of the hotel is 4 star and comfortable the other half is filled with people in jeans ,trainers, rucksacks, usually swearing and being rude to the staff. None of it makes any sense so you either leave the hotel 4 star , have a signature restaurant or turn it fully into Premier inn lookalike. The only reason we stayed 27 th to 29 th of April 2024 is because of the staff, who are exemplary, they will be far better off seeking somewhere to work that is a more discerning than Wordswoth hotel aka Premier inn.

We origiinally booked the hotel on the reputation as a fine dining hotel. The hotel has changed ownership but we were not dissapointed. On arrival we were upgraded to a suite, the hotel is looking a bit tired but the food was good,particularly breakfast and the staff were excellent and very helpful. We will return. Excellent location and well known hotel. It has been managed by many owners over the years. Recent change of ownership may not appreciate it is a 4 star hotel. Dining room was poor with cheap napkins wrapped around cutlery like a pub and cheap tables. Tables should have white table cloths in a 4 star hotel. Food was good. Staff were well trained and pleasant in the hotel. It is a clean hotel. Room was lovely except bathroom extractor but stay was nearly £600 for 2 for 2 nights including breakfast and two dinners (only one glass of wine). I would not say it was good value for money.

We had a great stay at the wordsworth. Just 1 night! It absolutely chucked it down but we did a load of nice walks. We got to come in and warm up next to the open fire. The best thing though? The venison in the restaurant. It was sensational. We will be back.

Amazing location, fantastic breakfast, lovely stuff, reception lady very helpful and always smilling, we will definitely be back.

My room was upgraded for free to a lovely room with 4 poster bed and sofa, coffee machine which was perfect as it was my stag weekend. The twin room request for the others was quickly accommodated. The location is quite stunning with gorgeous views. We sat in the garden drinking ales. The staff were friendly and extremely helpful. The food in the restaurant was stunning. Loved the home made game terrine and game pie. Loved the gamba pil pil and the venison medallions. we were a 1 and half hour drive to Sca Fell Pike but the drive was breathtaking. The hotel is quiet. I even played the piano one evening. Quite outstanding. Would definitely stay here again.

We love the Wordsworth but a short break is never enough! There is so much to see and do in Grasmere and whatever the weather it's great to return to this lovely, welcoming hotel. Our room was sparklingly clean with crisp bedlinen and fluffy towels - very comfortable indeed. The restaurant and bar were of a high standard and the food was good and expertly served. Above all, the staff throughout the hotel were very friendly, polite and helpful. We were particularly impressed by the reception staff who went out of their way to make guests feel special. Definitely 4 star standard!

booked a superior room, but was placed in a room on the 2nd floor with a tiny window with a view over the main road. the Bath was a problem to get into because of the depth of the bath , ( both in our 70s). complained to reception about this issue , (appeared nothing could be done) , also complained about the room being small compaired to the photo`s on the web site. after 15 minutes was informed that we could swap rooms the next day to a room with a walkin shower. this room was on the first floor and double the size of our oringal room , this room looked like the website photos i had booked in January 2024, i therefore felt I'd been let down, the beds were average and not comfortable for me ( my own experience). The hotel was fresh and clean throughout, the food was presentable and tasty. seating area`s throughout were plenty and comfortable, great outdoor gardens and a decent car park. Being in the centre of Grasmere was ideal. staff were friendly and helpful .

Not 2 star as very tiered hotel with poor food. No senior staff to address issues and food over cooked. Avoid at all cost !!!!
