The boss is young and enthusiastic, and can communicate in simple Chinese. I didn't find the shortcut to the mountain homestay at night, and the boss came to pick me up on the road after a phone call. The homestay is small and warm, the beds are spacious and solid, and the scenery on the way down the mountain is so beautiful when I go out to take the bus in the morning. It is suitable for backpackers.

The location was about a km away from Kowakidani Sta. Not really far but the recommended path by Google Maps (at least to me) was along the mountain highway. It was rainy and i was walking alone at night. I sometimes pass by vehicles on the road 🥲
I was late for checkin (past 22:00) so I had my Japanese friend call the hostel. They said it's okay to come until 23:00 as the hostel cafe is also open until then.
The bedspace in the mixed dorm was spacious enough and the ladder for the upper beds was sturdy. *The restroom in the main hostel is better maintained than the one in the annex.
The hostel restaurant is very nice and they let me stay for a bit after checkout as the rain was pouring that day. The owner's dog is named Rum 🥹

Cozy little hut with onsen! Located upslope, difficult to manage travel time as the last bus end pretty early. Without a hakone pass each bus ride can cost 600-700 yen.
First night was great. 2nd night was disruptive with loud snores from another travellers🥺
There should be a weight limit on those sleeping in the upper bunk too.
Good for 2 days short trip in Hakone

Staying in a B&B is always a bargain, but there are a few things about this B&B that are unsatisfactory.
1. The location is relatively remote, in the middle of the city/major movie spots. Although it is only a 2-3 minute walk to the bus, it takes half an hour or more to drive to the city or to visit the lake.
2. The bathroom and toilet are shared by several people. They are only cleaned once a day. The toilet is not well ventilated. The sanitary condition is really poor. As for its hot spring, it should be ignored.
3. The room has air conditioning and heating. If it is not warm enough, you can add a heater. There is nothing special to say about anything else.
4. The owner of the B&B and the dog are very hospitable and enthusiastic, but sometimes they are not there and you have to wait for help.
To sum up, this B&B is more suitable for backpackers, but not suitable for tourists staying in hotels.

In the small B&B on the mountain, there are many toiletry sets and curling irons. The tatami is very clean, but the room is a bit cold when I sleep at night. It is very nice to have a hot spring for bathing.

The hotel is very good. The boss is very nice and the service is very good. He can communicate in Chinese and English well. He also has a very cute dog. Most of the people living here are foreigners :)
