Hakone Kowakien Ten-yu
"Very professional hotel with access to Yunessen and all you can eat ice cream. Great hotel with kids who don’t want to go into shared bath. Beautiful garden view and sunrise view from our room. Also had Japanese carnival games that was complementary with the stay."
Hotel Indigo HAKONE GORA by IHG
"Room was great. Onsen bath enjoyable. River view a definite plus (highly recommended). Check in process was a little slow despite having already pre-paid for the room. Courtesy shuttle was very helpful to & from the hotel."
Hakone Kowakien Mikawaya Ryokan
"Beautiful hotel and nice staffs. The location is pretty great , near the open air museum. Great breakfast too"
Hakone Kowakien Miyama-furin
"We absolutely loved our stay at this hotel. We stayed 2 nights and really enjoyed an authentic experience in Hakone. The room was a perfect size for us and the onsen was lovely after a busy day of exploring. There are also some beautiful grounds next to the hotel (open to everyone) and an easy hike to a nearby waterfall too (approx 10 minutes). The staff were very helpful throughout our stay, thank you!"
Setsugetsuka
"Fantastic location as it’s just at Gora station. The staff are friendly and nice. The meals are good and plentiful. Lots of free snacks and food throughout the day. Highly recommend. Beautiful sunrise from the room."
Yoshiike Ryokan

Hakone Gora Karaku
"As a Korean family living in the United States, we stayed here as a family of four with our two young children (40 months and 21 months old), and overall, we had a truly memorable experience. We booked through Trip.com, and because there were no clearly stated child occupancy policies during booking, we reserved the room as 3 adults. This later created some confusion during check-in, which I will mention below, but aside from that, nearly everything about this hotel was exceptional. First, the positives: The breakfast was outstanding—worthy of its Michelin Guide 2025 recognition. Every meal was beautifully prepared, thoughtful, and delicious. We chose a traditional Japanese-style room with tatami flooring, and for our family with young children, it was perfect. Being able to remove our shoes and comfortably live on the floor felt especially natural and relaxing as Asians, and parents with little children will understand how convenient and comfortable this setup is. The location is also excellent—within walking distance from Gora Station, where the mountain railway arrives. Even with two small children, the walk was very manageable. The onsen experience was wonderful, and the guest lounge available from morning until 10 PM was another highlight that made the stay feel luxurious and comfortable. The dining area itself deserves special praise. Enjoying breakfast and dinner while overlooking the beautiful inner garden pond was peaceful and elegant, and the restaurant service team was abundant, attentive, warm, and professional. It truly felt like top-class hospitality. Now, one disappointment: During check-in, one female staff member wearing a headscarf made several comments that felt unnecessarily cold and transactional. Because we booked as 3 adults, she repeatedly explained that our children could be accommodated because of that booking choice—as if we were receiving an exception—despite there being no clearly stated child policy during reservation. She also explained that only 3 adult yukata/lounge outfits had been prepared in the room because we booked for 3 adults, and said we could request children's clothing “if needed.” When I asked when we should request them, she simply repeated that we could ask when necessary. At that point, a more thoughtful hospitality approach would have been something simple like: “I see you have two young children—would you like us to prepare children’s outfits now?” That small difference would have reflected genuine care. At check-out, I again observed behavior that felt uncomfortable. A trainee staff member was assisting us, and when the trainee forgot to request identification, the same staff member visibly frowned and corrected the trainee in front of us. It felt unnecessarily tense and unprofessional in front of guests. What stood out was that every other staff member we encountered was warm, polite, smiling, and genuinely welcoming. They bowed, greeted us kindly, and made us feel respected. Only this one staff member felt noticeably different—cold enough that we were left wondering whether it was discomfort toward children, cultural bias, or simply a personal attitude issue. I travel frequently internationally for business in a senior executive role, and this was the first time I experienced service that felt this distinctly uncomfortable from a luxury hospitality employee. That said, I want to emphasize: everyone else at the hotel was wonderful, and the property itself is beautiful, peaceful, elegant, and family-friendly. We would gladly return—but I hope the warmth shown by the rest of the team becomes the standard reflected consistently by every member of staff."
Gora-Onsen Setsugetsuka-Bettei Suiun
"We had the best experience here. Service and food were excellent and would highly recommend. Best experience in Japan so far."
Hyatt Regency Hakone Resort and Spa
"Very good services and staff. Good breakfast and offer free shuttle bus."
Rakuten STAY FUJIMI TERRACE Hakone Ashinoko
"Most beautiful place to stay in Hakone! They think of all the little details to make your stay amazing. The onsen with the view of Fuji was incredible. Highly recommend this place and would return in future."
Gora Hanaougi Madoka No Mori
"This is our most expensive stay oversees but it is so worth it! You do need to use public transportation and walk a little bit to get here but it was no issue for us. Of course you can use a taxi to get there or call them and they can set up transportation for you if needed, so that's a plus. The customer service here is top notch! Everyone is so professional, nice and super helpful! Their facility is gorgeous! Their dinner and breakfast was phenomenal as everything was so pretty to eat and it actually taste so good! Their public onsen area was clean and very nice and comfortable to use! Even everything in the room is comfortable and clean! You will have a great relaxing time here!"
Fujiya Hotel
"Excellent"
Hakonenomori Okada
"One of our best stay in Japan! The set meal, especially the dinner are awesome (at least for us Asian). We also enjoyed the room, amenity provided and flawless service. Hot spring is great, combined with free massage chair is heaven. It’s on a steep slope so if you don’t drive that would be some challenge."
Hotel Okada
"The service of the hotel was terrible! We’ve arrive early in the morning and would like to drop off our luggage and confirm the time for dinner and breakfast for the other morning, the reception told us it’s check out time, we can confirm the time when we come back, we told the reception we’ll be back late and want to confirm now cause if we back late and there would be no slot for us to choose but we still got rejected. We arrived arrived around 6pm and check in , the other reception told us either dinner and breakfast time slot are full, we can only take what they arrange! Which really pissed us off! And there’s no facility at all, no shuttle bus ! Will never stay in this hotel again !"
HAKONE YUYADO ZEN
"Lovely location in a wooded area with fantastic food. Peaceful after a busy few days in Kyoto. Staff were attentive and helpful."
Hakone Forest of Verde
"The room is large, comfortable, and perfect for a relaxing stay. Even though the hotel is situated on a hill, it remains easily accessible and convenient. The environment feels safe and calm, making it especially suitable for families looking for a peaceful getaway.👍🏻"
Hotel Green Plaza Hakone
"The photo and the actual room is totally different. To spent Aud$411 for one night , I don’t think it worth it. The view from our room were just the roof top of other buildings. Nothing special at all, old buildings. When walk down the corridor , it was dark and dime. It is an old hotel. The room was average , bath room was very small and the receptionists were not very welcoming. The first receptionist was quite bitter, he gave wrong information how to get around , we literally waited for an hour and we were told by the bus driver mentioned this was not working. On the second day , same receptionist said the same thing , he was not quite happy he said “I told you that day…. “ I addressed to him it was not working at all. They are not very informative at all. The second receptionist was very helpful , unfortunately he left his work before resolve the problem. He gave the correct advise. The third receptionist was a lady, she was quite helpful and show us the right way. Thank you for that . It took us about 2 hours to navigate how to travel to another place. We have booked a taxi, no taxi around that area. Just so hard get around. Imagine you have all the luggages to pull around. We didn’t have a chance to have dinner because no restaurant around that area. Comfortable mattress, quiet place and breakfast was average. I think we could find a better place to stay. I couldn’t be bothered to take more pictures. Not recommended."
Hakone Retreat Före
"We booked this hotel as a birthday gift and we’re very happy with the choice. The property is beautifully located in a woodland and our room was at tree canopy height. We slept with the window open and woke up to the sounds of birds. Local deer were roaming in front of the building one morning! The breakfast is delicious with a wealth of Japanese and European options. We did not book a dinner, but plenty of other guests did and I’m sure it was amazing. There is also an onsite cafe where they have good (complimentary) teas and coffee, as well as (paid) delicious cakes. Of course we also thoroughly enjoyed the spa which has great amenities and is very clean. The only thing we were disappointed about was that there are no private baths like in a previous onsen hotel that we visited. So men and women go bathing separately."
Hakonehibarino hot spring hotel
"Just checked out from this hot spring hotel and couldn't wait to leave a glowing review! The most striking impression of my stay was how *new* everything felt. The hotel must have opened recently, as the overall decor is modern and minimalist, and everything is sparkling clean and well-maintained. It made for a very comfortable stay. ♨️ Must-Praise Highlight: The private hot spring bath in the room I originally booked this hotel specifically for the in-room hot spring, and it certainly didn't disappoint! The hot spring bath is tucked away in a corner of the room, beautifully designed, and genuine hot spring water flows directly from the tap. Being brand new, the stone of the tub and the surrounding area are impeccably maintained, completely free of any old stains or odors. For someone a bit of a clean freak like me, being able to confidently strip down and soak in a private space without worrying about the cleanliness of a public bath was a huge plus. I took a dip before bed and again after waking up in the morning, enjoying the view outside the window – all my fatigue just melted away. Beyond the hot spring, the room's other amenities were also fully equipped, showing the hotel's attention to detail. I also have to commend the service team here. The front desk staff spoke both Chinese and English, so communication was absolutely seamless. They were friendly, professional, and went above and beyond to help with travel recommendations. Overall, if you're looking for a clean, stylish, and relaxing getaway where you can enjoy private hot spring moments, this place is definitely the perfect choice. I'll certainly be back if I get the chance!"
Hakone Retreat Villa 1f
"It is located in a forest in a corner of Hakone. The forest is dense and there is a good hot spring, so it is suitable for relaxation and digital detox. It is very quiet. The biggest attraction here is the restaurant called Hyoseki. Hyoseki, which is an old ryokan building that has been in operation since 1925, shows the harmony of traditional Japanese ryokan and modern times. The Freeverse and the reception restaurant on the Fore side are in contrast with each other in a Western style, and they all match the concept and have their own charm. The villa was built recently and the facilities are good, but there are some questions about the hygiene management, such as the condition of the hot spring water, the slow operation of the hot water, and the spider webs on the ceiling. However, the food and atmosphere are very good, so I am satisfied."
Hakone Suishoen
"A very quiet and peaceful place. Great stay for family. The hotel also provides free station pick up and drop off services. The rooms we were staying were very spacious and comfortable. Each room has its own open air bath(onsen), very private, so great for people who don’t feel comfortable going to the public onsen. The breakfast is outstanding and perfect size for everyone one. You can choose either western or Japanese style breakfast. Both are delicious. Highly recommend it!"
Odakyu Hotel de Yama
"Food was awesome in this hotel, amenities was beautiful and its just a short walk away from Hakone Shrine."
Hakone Yumoto Aura Tachibana
"Location just average but the service was good"
Hakone Hotel
"Amazing view from the rooms and the hotel overall. Highly recommend this place if you want to relax and get the view of Mount Fuji. Great service!! The only difficulty we had was reaching the hotel as the transportation isn’t very often and the only mode of transportation is bus. Overall very happy with the hotel"
Yumoto Fujiya Hotel
"Proximity to train station is the biggest advantage. Nice onsen as well."
Hotel Kajikaso Hakone
"Beautiful older style hotel, staff are attentive , baths are beautiful and comfortable beds, amenities is nice too with dyson hsirdryer. Fantastic location. The only downside is room a little outdated with mould on the ceiling and inside the wardrobe."
