"Absolutely amazing! The huge courtyard is stunning, the room is comfortable, and the service is attentive. There weren't many people, so I practically had the public hot spring all to myself. Oh, if only I could stay here for half a year or a year!"

"The surroundings are absolutely beautiful, pretty much what you'd expect from an onsen village: there's a very picturesque river nearby, a small waterfall not too far away, and plenty of places to stroll around. They even have spots with fireflies nearby. The hotel itself is nicely decorated, and the rooms are simple, clean, and comfortable. The mountain view from the window is stunning. The onsen itself is quite basic. There are two open-air baths on the veranda. It was a unique experience for me to lie in such a huge tub! The onsen water wasn't particularly impressive, though. Another nice touch is that you can choose your yukata by color. The last photo shows the shelves where they're kept."

"Facilities: Excellent Cleanliness: Good Ambiance: Comfortable Service: Good Located on Gora mountain, there isn't much to explore nearby, but you can take a pleasant walk along the road with fresh air. The hotel facilities are excellent, and the half-board (two meals and one stay) is fantastic; both breakfast and dinner were delicious! After a satisfying meal, we enjoyed a very relaxing dip in the hot springs. The lobby offers tea and coffee, and in the evening, there are various snacks, alcoholic drinks, and other beverages available. The staff are very friendly. Overall, we are extremely satisfied."

"As a Korean family living in the United States, we stayed here as a family of four with our two young children (40 months and 21 months old), and overall, we had a truly memorable experience. We booked through Trip.com, and because there were no clearly stated child occupancy policies during booking, we reserved the room as 3 adults. This later created some confusion during check-in, which I will mention below, but aside from that, nearly everything about this hotel was exceptional. First, the positives: The breakfast was outstanding—worthy of its Michelin Guide 2025 recognition. Every meal was beautifully prepared, thoughtful, and delicious. We chose a traditional Japanese-style room with tatami flooring, and for our family with young children, it was perfect. Being able to remove our shoes and comfortably live on the floor felt especially natural and relaxing as Asians, and parents with little children will understand how convenient and comfortable this setup is. The location is also excellent—within walking distance from Gora Station, where the mountain railway arrives. Even with two small children, the walk was very manageable. The onsen experience was wonderful, and the guest lounge available from morning until 10 PM was another highlight that made the stay feel luxurious and comfortable. The dining area itself deserves special praise. Enjoying breakfast and dinner while overlooking the beautiful inner garden pond was peaceful and elegant, and the restaurant service team was abundant, attentive, warm, and professional. It truly felt like top-class hospitality. Now, one disappointment: During check-in, one female staff member wearing a headscarf made several comments that felt unnecessarily cold and transactional. Because we booked as 3 adults, she repeatedly explained that our children could be accommodated because of that booking choice—as if we were receiving an exception—despite there being no clearly stated child policy during reservation. She also explained that only 3 adult yukata/lounge outfits had been prepared in the room because we booked for 3 adults, and said we could request children's clothing “if needed.” When I asked when we should request them, she simply repeated that we could ask when necessary. At that point, a more thoughtful hospitality approach would have been something simple like: “I see you have two young children—would you like us to prepare children’s outfits now?” That small difference would have reflected genuine care. At check-out, I again observed behavior that felt uncomfortable. A trainee staff member was assisting us, and when the trainee forgot to request identification, the same staff member visibly frowned and corrected the trainee in front of us. It felt unnecessarily tense and unprofessional in front of guests. What stood out was that every other staff member we encountered was warm, polite, smiling, and genuinely welcoming. They bowed, greeted us kindly, and made us feel respected. Only this one staff member felt noticeably different—cold enough that we were left wondering whether it was discomfort toward children, cultural bias, or simply a personal attitude issue. I travel frequently internationally for business in a senior executive role, and this was the first time I experienced service that felt this distinctly uncomfortable from a luxury hospitality employee. That said, I want to emphasize: everyone else at the hotel was wonderful, and the property itself is beautiful, peaceful, elegant, and family-friendly. We would gladly return—but I hope the warmth shown by the rest of the team becomes the standard reflected consistently by every member of staff."

"Great stay and an excellent onsen experience. Look into transportation around Hakone before booking, but there are busses that run during the day."

Hakone Forest of Verde Hotels in Hakone

"This was by far the best and most comfortable hotel of my entire trip, highly recommended! The room was incredibly spacious with a small balcony offering distant views. The front desk staff were exceptionally responsible and patient; they used a translator to explain things to me sentence by sentence when I didn't understand. Absolutely top-notch service! If I ever get the chance to visit again, I'll definitely stay here. The hotel offers a shuttle bus service to and from Gora Station, but you need to pay attention to the schedule. If you follow navigation and take the 'H' bus to Kowakien, you'll face a very tiring uphill walk, even though it looks like a short distance on the map! If you can manage the bus schedule, it's best to go one stop further to Tenyu Station. The hotel boasts a rich variety of facilities including hot springs, a sauna, a swimming pool, a gym, and a ping-pong room. The lobby also has plenty of tourist brochures, some of which include discount coupons – definitely worth exploring!"

"The room is big enough and we definitely had a pleasant stay with the comfort beds. This is biggest room we have ever booked in all our Japan trips . The breakfast spread not so much, but we found their Japanese rice with soup is so yum! the location is really not great if you doesn’t have transportation with you."

"This was our second time booking with this hotel. It is one of the most luxurious places we've stayed. The rooms are spacious, the beds are comfortable, the toiletries available in the room are great quality, the buffet breakfast is tasty and varied. The private bath on the balcony was really nice after a long, cold day (although it was a little too hot for me to stay in as long as I wanted, wish we could adjust adding in a bit of cold water). If we're ever in the mood to relax again in Hakone, we'll look at booking here first!"

"The hotel is new and well operated. We have booked with breakfast and dinner buffet. There are various kinds of drinks provided, including whisky, wine, beer, soft drinks and fruit juice, worth for trying, but there are limited choices of food. The view of the room is perfect as you can see the lake and the cable car station without any obstruction from your balcony. The hot spring spa at the hotel is wonderful, with indoor and outdoor portion and outside the hot spring, there are kimono that you could choose to dress during your stay. There is a private spa room but it’s full during my stay so we could not try it."

Hakone Retreat Före Hotels in Hakone

"The hotel's condition doesn’t match the photos you can find online. It is not well maintained, the garden and trees are not taken care of, and the facility is getting old with molds and paint peeling in the rooms. Extremely cheap room speakers, no television, cheap hairdryer, cheap amenities. Not what we are expecting for such a price. I paid 95,000¥ for one night without dinner included. Overpriced."

"Fantastic location next to Gora Station with easy access to Gotemba premium outlets via bus& Cablecar to Lake Ashi. Kaiseki breakfast and dinners were thoughtfully planned and different each meal. So many free snacks and food at different timings. Private outdoor onsen was wonderful as well. Note: you have to queue for any of the 3 huts. Only thing we didn’t like was having to shower outdoors and the dated toto bidet. Other than that, perfect 2 night stay at Hakone."

"One of the best hot spring hotels even experienced in Japan! New, clean and comfy environment, the buffet dinner and breakfast provided wide variety of food. Additional drink and snack served in the common areas even not paid for the meal options. The staff are friendly as usual in Japan. Also the private onsen available without extra cost. Highly recommended!"

"Stunning Historical Garden: The absolute highlight is their massive traditional Japanese garden. It feels like walking through a living postcard, with beautiful ponds, lush trees, and streaming water. To our surprise, we were greeted by fireflies at night while strolling after dinner. The natural hot spring water here is top-tier. We get almost 24-hour access to the relaxing indoor and outdoor baths (rotenburo). Soaking under the stars after a long day of exploring was pure bliss. Prime Location: It is incredibly convenient—just a flat, easy 7-minute walk from Hakone-Yumoto Station. No need to haul heavy bags up steep hills. The service is warm, welcoming, and attentive. The rooms are beautifully kept, offering that authentic, peaceful ryokan vibe. Traditional Japanese Breakfast. Dinner is a multi-course, traditional Kaiseki feast served right in the restaurant, which beautifully overlooks the illuminated evening garden."

"Check in took quite some time as there were many guests checking in at 3pm. The hotel has a western ryokan feel. It has 2 onsens which they alternate between men and women and I suggest going to both. The one on level 5 has a waterfall view. Dinner was buffet style and the variety was great. I super love the fresh Sashimi, the miso soup, the tempura and sushi, snow crab etc. Room was clean and spacious with our own outdoor Onsen bath. Would love to come back."

"We only stayed for one night.  This hotel is also used as a 1-day onsen for public so it was quite busy with a lot of people in the public areas and at the onsens.  The room was slightly smaller than expected.  The buffet breakfast and dinner were ok but nothing spectacular.  The area outside the hotel was very picturesque though, and it's only a 10-15 min walk to the nearest station and you will pass all the souvenir shops and little eateries on the way so it's quite nice. "
