Stunning Historical Garden: The absolute highlight is their massive traditional Japanese garden. It feels like walking through a living postcard, with beautiful ponds, lush trees, and streaming water. To our surprise, we were greeted by fireflies at night while strolling after dinner. The natural hot spring water here is top-tier. We get almost 24-hour access to the relaxing indoor and outdoor baths (rotenburo). Soaking under the stars after a long day of exploring was pure bliss. Prime Location: It is incredibly convenient—just a flat, easy 7-minute walk from Hakone-Yumoto Station. No need to haul heavy bags up steep hills. The service is warm, welcoming, and attentive. The rooms are beautifully kept, offering that authentic, peaceful ryokan vibe. Traditional Japanese Breakfast. Dinner is a multi-course, traditional Kaiseki feast served right in the restaurant, which beautifully overlooks the illuminated evening garden.

This hotel is a bit far from the station, but thankfully, they offer a shuttle bus service every 20 minutes. Just make sure to check the schedule. The hotel itself is a bit old but kept very clean. The set dinner was decent, and the breakfast buffet was just average. If you're not too picky, it's a fine place to stay. The outdoor hot springs are fantastic, with five large and very comfortable pools. Next time, I might just come for a day trip to use the onsen, as that would be even better value for money.

The hotel is well organized! Functional staff requested. Relaxing and pleasant environment. Relatively close to the train station that goes to other attractions of haxon! Have a convenience shop nearby. The only bad point was something a little shy that a telephone spoke to us.

Our experience staying in Hakone was perfect! We stayed at the Tensein in Hakone-Yumoto, an easy location to take the bus, car or train to some popular tourist attractions in the area. The check in itself was rather slow but the staff do their best to speak good English and discuss every detail about your stay with you. The room had everything we needed, the shampoo and conditioners provided was wonderful and there was a variety of products to use. On check in, the private onsen was given at 50% discount at 1,100 Japanese yen per use, we got 2 vouchers so used it 2 times (as we have tattoos we could not go into the public onsen). On check in you have to collect your towel and your choice of Yukata (traditional Japanese robe) which you’re welcomed and encouraged to wear around the hotel and gardens. The hotel is strictly no shoes, so upon arrival you leave your shoes in a locked box and keep the key. If you wish to walk around the beautiful gardens, there are slider type shoes available to slip on, as well as umbrellas to use if it’s raining. Outside they have a onsen for your feet to enjoy with a drink. All of the food and drink (apart from breakfast which was included) was put on our bill at the end. There was a wide selection of drinks, nibbles and food available for dinner and lunches at the dining room and there was a large buffet dining room for buffet breakfast and dinner (if you booked it). The hotel is just a short 10 minute walk to the town and 15 minute walk to the Hakone-Yumoto station. Visiting Mt Fuji is easy, with a bus ‘H’ running from stand 2 opposite the Hakone -Yumoto station. Get off at ‘Motohakone’. From there, you can take another bus and a train to get you to another town ‘Gora’ and surrounding attractions to enjoy.

Is a very relaxing onsen hotel with a great companion of free parking, unlimited free flow of drinks and alcohol, free supper ramen and helpful front desk staff assist when check in.. the hotel is just located near to the train station and old town.. really highly recommended and worth it.

I had a very enjoyable stay at this hotel in Hakone. The hotel is clean, well-maintained, and conveniently located just 750 meters from Hakone-Yumoto Station. The room was spacious and comfortable, and the check-in process was quick and efficient. Dinner was excellent - you can choose your preferred dining time, and the set meal was delicious where you get to try local dishes. The free-flow rice was a nice bonus, and the waitstaff were attentive and friendly. The highlight of my stay was the onsen, especially the outdoor bath where I could relax while listening to the soothing sound of the river. The complimentary popsicles after a soak were also a thoughtful touch. Overall, the hotel exceeded my expectations, and I would gladly stay here again.

Great location, only 3 minutes from the train station. There are supermarkets and restaurants nearby. The hotel is the low budget part of the hotel opposite. However, you can use the onsen and the facilities of the other part of the hotel for free. The Onsen is a bit small, but nicely designed and wasn't too crowded. The service is really nice and helpful. The room was really small, but sufficient for one night. The air conditioning is unfortunately directly above the bed and the bathroom is really extremely small. There was some mold visible in the bathroom, otherwise it was very clean. The price was very low. I can only recommend the hotel.

Overall, I was very satisfied with my stay. The hotel is super close to Yumoto Station, just across the road, which was great as I could drop off my luggage and explore the sights without any hassle. The room was spacious with a lovely mountain view outside the window. Waking up to the sound of flowing water and birdsong in the fresh morning air was delightful. The hotel staff were also excellent – very warm and attentive, paying close attention to every detail. If I had one suggestion for improvement, it would be to enhance the breakfast environment and the variety/uniqueness of the dishes.

Absolutely fine! We had booked a room “without a view” because it was the only one left, but we actually had plenty of view directly from the bed, so we were pleasantly surprised and very happy. Plenty of space. Sweet and helpful staff. Good breakfast, simple and exactly what you can expect. The pillows were a bit hard and short, but otherwise we had nothing to complain about, and that’s probably a matter of personal preference as well.

I was quite worried before my visit, having seen many mixed reviews online. However, I decided to stick with this hotel, primarily due to its excellent location very close to Yumoto Station, which makes getting around incredibly convenient. Upon arrival, I personally found it to be excellent. First off, the room was very spacious. Although the amenities were a bit dated (still using traditional button switches instead of a modern key card system), the vintage charm of this traditional Japanese-style room was actually quite nice. Secondly, staying in a room with a private outdoor onsen at the foot of the mountain during summer, I was delighted to find no mosquitoes. I only spotted one unidentified bug on the day I checked in, and never saw another insect afterwards. What's more, the onsen water was continuously circulating, so the surface was always clean with no debris. Enjoying a hot spring bath at night while stargazing was truly blissful. The breakfast and dinner portions initially looked small, served as individual dishes, but by the end, I was completely stuffed and couldn't finish it all! (𖦹.𖦹) Finally, the overall service was impeccable, from the check-in process at the front desk to the staff attending to us during breakfast and dinner.
