"Overall, my stay was very satisfying. The hotel environment is quiet and comfortable; the moment you walk in, you feel a sense of relaxation, making it perfect for a weekend getaway. The room was clean and tidy, with a cozy atmosphere, and the bedding was soft, ensuring a very comfortable sleep. The hot springs are definitely the highlight of this hotel. The water is clear, and the temperature is just right, leaving you feeling completely relaxed after a soak. The different pools are also thoughtfully designed, with unique characteristics for both indoor and outdoor options. The outdoor hot springs, in particular, offer a truly delightful experience in a natural setting. Service also deserves praise. The staff were friendly and patient in answering any questions, making me feel well looked after. All in all, it was a very relaxing and pleasant stay. If I have the chance in the future, I would definitely consider coming back and highly recommend it to anyone looking to rest well and enjoy some hot springs."

"The room was actually quite spacious, bright, and comfortable, with clean beds and a fantastic full ocean view. However, the facilities were a bit dated. Also, probably due to staff shortages, the hotel offered guests staying multiple nights a 2000 JPY credit per night if they opted out of housekeeping, which could be used at the hotel's outlets. The hotel's location was a bit tricky to find. Arriving at night, the navigation led us through small alleyways and stone steps. Carrying luggage up those steps was quite a struggle 😰, and after descending the stone steps, we still had to climb a slope
 😂. I'd recommend taking a taxi if you're arriving late! Overall, this hotel was very comfortable, and it was a pleasant end to our in-depth trip."

"Hakone Kowakien Ten-yu is a truly comfortable and relaxing ryokan that made our stay very enjoyable. The staff were attentive and welcoming from the moment we arrived by car, and they promptly helped unload our luggage and delivered it to the hotel. They also assisted with carrying our luggage back to the car during check-out. The room was well-equipped, clean, and very hygienic, and the high-floor view was wide and beautiful. Breakfast and dinner buffet were both satisfying, with delicious food and a good variety of choices. The onsen was also impressive, with two levels of outdoor baths that are alternated between men and women at different times, allowing guests to enjoy both. The water park-style onsen area was a bit less impressive, but overall, this ryokan deserves a very high rating. The official site highlights its open-air onsen, private baths in all rooms, and well-regarded dining, which matches the strong overall experience here"

"Beautiful hotel with a perfect view of the lake and right next to public transportation options. The deluxe lake view room was huge and very clean. The public onsen is small with just two pools, one onsen had an open view to the sky. Note that they have no gyms available. The breakfast was great, a small main hot entree and unlimited sides, such as breads, salads, fruits, and drinks. The only downside is the lack of AC during the winter. It was very hot and we had to open the window to cool it down."

"Our stay at the hotel was overall excellent, and we would still highly recommend it, especially for couples looking for a pleasant getaway. Almost everything was perfect—the room was clean and comfortable, the facilities were great, and every other staff member we encountered was polite and helpful. It’s truly a lovely place to spend time together. However, our check-in experience was noticeably unpleasant due to one staff member. She came across as unwelcoming and impatient, almost as if we were bothering her. She rushed through the process and felt quite pushy, especially when repeatedly questioning which language we preferred—even though we tried communicating in both Japanese and English. Her attitude made us feel uncomfortable and somewhat unwanted at first. Aside from this one incident, everything else was wonderful. We hope the hotel addresses such front-desk service issues so that future guests can enjoy a consistently welcoming experience from start to finish."

"It's very good, and it's Japanese style. The Shinjuku Highway Bus goes directly to [Sengoku Plateau]🚉. When you get off the bus, you can see Lawson and walk six or seven minutes to the door of the hotel. If you want to book a taxi for the next day, you have to book it in advance with the hotel front desk. They are full in the morning. In the afternoon, the hotel's shuttle bus will take us to the next hotel (not far away, 2.3 kilometers, within ten minutes). There are only 24 rooms in total, because there are a maximum of 12 tables for each meal. I called the front desk at 18:00 and said that we might be 10 minutes late. We were directly arranged to have dinner at 19:45. The Japanese set menu was served one after another, and the service was particularly good. Very delicious too. We arrived in the room in the evening and it was very warm. They had turned on the air conditioner in the room in advance. It is really cold in Hakone at night during this season. I relaxed as soon as I entered the hotel. After soaking in the hot spring, turn off the air conditioner. Why is it so hot after soaking? Eat and sleep. It was originally a public bath, but maybe we went there late, and it became a private bath at night and during the day. The men's and women's baths change in the morning and evening, and the large bath has an open-air bath."

"I absolutely loved this hotel! Everything from booking, arranging the shuttle via email, to check-in and check-out, was incredibly smooth. The private onsen, which I reserved in advance via email, was also a wonderful experience. The location is fantastic, right next to Togendai – just a 5-minute walk away. It's super convenient for visiting Owakudani and taking the Hakone Sightseeing Cruise. If the hotel shuttle schedule doesn't work for you, you can easily catch a bus from Togendai to Odawara hub. What's more, the Togendai bus runs every 15 minutes, and it's the starting point, so you'll never have to worry about not getting a seat or a place for your luggage. The hotel's buffet breakfast and dinner, with free-flowing drinks, were also a highlight. Most importantly, my husband left his headphones at the hotel. When we realized, we were already in Kamakura, preparing to head to Yokohama. We immediately called the hotel, and their response was incredibly fast. They quickly located the headphones and sent them via courier to the nearest express pickup point at our Yokohama hotel. We received them successfully before returning home. A huge thank you! I highly recommend this hotel to everyone. There was not a single thing to complain about throughout our stay."

"The staff was incredible - they went above and beyond and actually drove us to the gora station when we missed the bus. The scenery around is beautiful, as is the main building. The public onsen in the hotel left much to be desired - if possible, book the room with a private one because it’s basically the same thing (the outside one) and you’d have it all to yourself. We weren’t fans of the food (neither diner nor breakfast) - the dinner was too much work with shabu shabu, the breakfast didn’t have coffee. But maybe some would like the food, it’s subjective. But I’d give the hotel an A* purely because of how incredible the staff were!"

"This hotel is suitable for self-driving as public transport stops are quite a distance away, making it inconvenient with luggage. Checking in very late felt a bit odd, and I mistakenly went to an old building nearby which was quite a fright! However, many staff appeared the next morning and everything was sorted. The breakfast was plentiful, and the front desk staff, who spoke Chinese, were very helpful in assisting us with taxi bookings, which was a huge plus."
