A very special place, not a run-of-the-mill chain hotel. The owner's signature is clearly evident in the interior design, the 70s, mushroom art and alternative lifestyles shine through. The ready meals on offer are of top quality, you can choose between a wide variety of meals that you can heat up in the microwave, on the stove or in the oven. A fantastic sake menu and a craft beer machine. The prices are absolutely fair. Real people work there who are interested in the well-being of the guests. The onsen is quite small but in top condition. It's a bit out of the way.

It is very close to Dadai Station, about a 5-minute walk. When I entered the hotel, I saw an old man cleaning every corner with a vacuum cleaner barefoot. The staff who received us were very friendly and served us with a smile. You can take a foot bath on the first floor, there is a large bath on the basement floor where you can take a bath, and there is an open-air hot spring on the second floor. Quite easy to access by bus or the local railway (I recommend coming by rail rather than bus as the area is quite touristy and busses are packed)
Very clean and traditional experience
Stunning view from the room, and the reading area is really cute
My reason for 4 rather than 5 stars:
- Low beams in the room can cause taller people to bang their heads a lot
- This is a personal preference thing, but the Onsen baths were SO hot it was hard to sit in there for more than a minute and enjoy relaxing

Quiet area and appreciated the staff and cleanliness. A bit far from everything but there’s a cute cafe nearby. Highly recommend using the luggage service at Hakone yumoto, the hilly area is not suited for hauling big luggages around

The tatami is so comfortable, and the feeling of making a bed is very similar to the feeling of sleeping in a Datong bunk in a junior high school. The service staff are very polite and enthusiastic. I will still want to stay here next time I come to Hakone.
The breakfast is a bit of a pity. I wish there could be more items, at least more boiled eggs or milk cereal.

Attentive but discreet staff. Very peaceful.
Room had exactly what was needed, felt very zen, mountain views were great.
Natural hot spring one floor down was perfect. The ability to get a cool shower just right by it and alternate hot with cool was perfect.
The entrance-level foot bath from natural hot springs is a very welcome sight when just returning from the early morning hike, before breakfast.
Excellent well-marked hiking in the vicinity, with great view towards the ocean on the trail up from Ohiradai.
