The House is located on the outskirts of Halifax in a peaceful enclave surrounded by industrial and residential estates. The access is from Holdsworth Road along a short driveway; car park is at the back. There is a large wedding reception room but it is located away from the rooms so noise is not an issue. There is a garden at the back, rather cute and well maintained. Cosy lounge, next to the bar, with a buzzing fireplace gives the place a homely feeling. All rooms are located in newer annexes attached to the main, original house. Our Executive Suite was on the upper floor, some distance away from the Reception. To access it we had to go through a number of doors carrying luggage; no assistance was offered. There was not much of a view but considering the neighbourhood, that was understandable. The room was spacious and bright. Furniture was an eclectic mixture of styles. Bed was king-size and comfortable and the large wardrobe provided ample space for clothes. There were plenty of seats around. Bathroom was rather tight but it had both a walk-in shower and a bath tub. Bathrobes were provided. There were tea and coffee facilities. Bottled water was provided for the first night only. WiFi signal kept dropping. We dined both nights at the hotel. The offer was quite limited but the food was tasty and quite innovative. Wine selection was adequate. Breakfast had a mixture of basic buffet items and hot dishes served to order. Fruit offering was rather basic. Staff were friendly and welcoming.

Absolutely outstanding!! My partner and I (and baby) booked on the whim as we were travelling home from Harrogate and decided to stay another night on route! I’m SO glad we did! This place is honestly exceptional! We were so kindly upgraded to accommodate baby and give us some extra room. The room was gorgeous - spotlessly clean, light and had everything we needed. Bed was so comfy!! The hotel was spotless too and felt so cosy... fires were lit and interior was all very traditional / authentic. The building is full of history which we learnt all about whilst there which really was fascinating. The staff we met were trained to the best standards and were all so lovely. The dinner we both agreed was the best food we have eaten in a very long time. Our waiter, Anthony, was brilliant… absolute credit to the place and couldn’t do enough to ensure we were looked after. The breakfast was equally as delicious and Tracey who served us was also fabulous! Honestly we would recommend this little gem to anyone and have said we would love to come back again should we be in the area. You don’t come across places like this often!!

26 years ago I took my mum and dad for their silver wedding anniversary to stay and have dinner. On the evening they played the music that they had walked down the aisle too (not planned) but was really magical. 26 years later, today, I took my mum and family for afternoon tea and had asked them to play the same piece of music which they very kindly did. The setting is beautiful, we were warmly welcomed, they accommodated our dietary requirements and the food was scrumptious. The service was lovely, all in all it was very special and lovely. The children's afternoon tea was perfect too - totally appropriate sandwiches and treats which my daughter adored. I would definitely recommend the experience.

A lovely hotel with such an interesting back story. The Bettles stayed here! Room was very comfortable, every member of staff was both friendly and welcoming as well as professional. We ate in the restaurant both nights of our stay, both the evening meals and breakfast were delicious. It was my husband’s Birthday during our stay and it was made very special. Thank you for having us x

We booked here for our daughter's wedding. From the outset the hotel and staff were superb. The setting is spectacular, old world premises originating some 400 years ago. It absolutely screams wedding. Come the day, it did not disappoint. Superb organisation, amazing food and fantastic service from the ceremony to the wedding reception to the evening event. The staff could not do enough making sure it ran smoothly and made our daughter's day nothing short of perfect. If you are looking for an event venue you cannot do any better. The grounds are beautiful and make fantastic backdrops for the photos. I cannot praise this private hotel highly enough.

Beautiful traditional hotel. Pretty rooms with comfy beds. Very nice restaurant with good food including a separate vegan menu and gluten free choices. Lovely service. Very friendly staff. Small but lovely formal gardens. And a nice cat!

Visited a couple of times for work in February, and had a marvellous time. The rustic charm gives a true sense of history with modern amenities in the room for comfort. I’ve tried both house double rooms and executive suites and both very comfortable with modern bathrooms. I was glad to see Yorkshire tea in the rooms! Dinner was expert, and above expectations. Though a little expensive if you want a simple meal, the food was well thought through, had multiple dimensions and something to offer all palates. As a chef in a past life, I was highly impressed. Breakfast was also great and no-nonsense. And finally, staff were helpful, friendly and very welcoming. Particularly the on-site cat!
