We had an excellent stay. The food at dinner and breakfast was delicious. The service was excellent and we found everyone friendly and helpful. This is why I have given 5 stars however there are a couple of things we would change if staying again. The hotel is old and can be noisy during service times as can the road outside the hotel. We were in room 5 which had a bath and hand held shower. The plug on the bath did not work and the only way to use the shower head was to sit in the bath. We did report and we were offered a shower or bath in a different room but they couldn’t fix during our 2 night stay. The second is the emergency lighting is in the main part of the bedroom and is a very bright green. This could easily be located in the corridor to the room. Again we report and it was covered for our second night which stopped a lot of the light. One more thing is the hairdryer in the bathroom is useless, another hairdryer was in the wardrobe and I used that but there was no mirror. Just minor faults that could be rectified and would make a big difference.

We have just come back from the Green man our table was booked for 18.30 we eat at 19.30 !!!!!! Nobody acknowledged us through out , no water was offered on the table , so many others had received their meals before us even though they arrived well after us , our food was not how it was supposed to be ( well detailed on their menu !!!! ) Then someone brought us a desert menu and once again we were forgotten about , so we up and left what an utter disgrace. Never going back , and you should be ashamed about the way you treat your customers.

This is a beautiful venue in an idyllic village but I think I the pub falls well short of its potential. We had a booking recently and although all of us generally enjoyed our meal we also felt a bit deflated afterwards. Firstly and most importantly there was a real lack of effort to cater for allergies and intolerances on the Sunday menu. It’s really frustrating when a pub that charges £20ish for a Sunday lunch can’t even go to the trouble of keeping pre-made Yorkshire puddings in the freezer to pull out when needed, gluten free options should be available not just leaving things off that aren’t then reflected in the price. 75p each in Sainsburys and they take 2 minutes to heat up. The meats we had were delicious and portions fairly generous. Choice of seasonal veg was a crowd splitter but we ultimately decided mange tout belongs in a stir fry not on a plate with gravy. The worst bit was what an effort everything seemed to our server, starting with the intolerance questions and then the constant eye rolling when we requested additional condiments. Perhaps they were a member of staff short on the day but the obvious frustration resulted in a bitter taste when the bill arrived, and it wasn’t a cheap meal to be left feeling like that.

Delicious inventive gastro pub in Fownhope. All home cooked food, lovely menu with usual dishes - a very clever chef! Really enjoyed dining here. Highly recommend for quality food and drink. Excellent service- friendly , timely & attentive.

We arrived at 6.30pm,parking on a large free car park adjacent to the Inn,sited on the main street in Fownhope HR14PE.next to the New Inn. We checked in with Geogious, who clearly explained the layout ,and confirmed our evening meal table, then showed us to our room,in an annex along side the Inn,it was a lot cooler in the room, and welcome as it was 30degrees on our way her A clean room, but a very stained carpet, with marked walls,an up date was overdue here,.tea coffee, biscuits and kettle, free bottled water, and an owe so cummfy clean bed with good quaility bedding, and a tv with unworkable remext day,ote control. We tried the bar in this Quirky Inn,old beams and lots of passageways, the barman was so helpfull, with local knowledge, and drink reccommendations. We were shown our dineing table, served drinks, and ordered our 2 courses, the food was sparse, tasty and well presented, not a lot of it. Had a great peacefull sleep, and went for breakfast,in the Bar area, good full breakfast with limited choice of buffet,no cornflakes,. This is on the Wye valley, river walks at the rear of the carpark, long wooded walks,we walked 7-8 miles next day,and hardly met anyone, noteing this was the only food inn open on Monday and Tuesday locally. a Splended, pritty, village, well kept, with, open field walks ,lots to see on foot here. We will return as the staff were so helpfull,

We took advantage of a Travelzoo deal of Dinner, B&B with a bottle of fizz and have to say everything was faultless. We had an early breakfast on the Monday morning as we needed to get to a golf match. Breakfast was wonderful but in the rush we left a pair of sandals in our room. We rang the next day and the staff kindly took the sandals to the local post office, where we had paid in advance for them to be delivered to our home address. All in all a geat experience.

The friend who took us said it was good, but it was better than that! The homemade soup was delicious and a meal in itself, but we had also ordered the venison pie and fish and chips which we found almost too much, but too good to leave. We wish that we didn’t live so far away!

They pass off Prosecco as champagne. Capalletti a miserly offering. Steak ordered medium rare, served well done, canned mushrooms. Soggy petite four. Such a disappointment. Used to be nice place to eat with good food, shame to see the decline.
