The Queens Arms Hotel

This was so bad we did not stay and went home a day early. The room was located above a seedy looking pub which looked as if it had not be decorated for many years. The room was approached by a dingy staircase with a brown nylon carpet which did not look clean. The bedroom was dated but the bed looked clean and firm with plenty of towels. The shower had black mildew in the grouting and was in serious need of decoration and modernisation. The final straw was the toilet which would only flush if we climbed on the seat and pulled the chain from the top. This was not a Victorian cast iron toilet. It was circa 1960s plastic and shabby. When I asked about breakfast I was told that they hadn't done food since the pandemic. We booked a hotel in Hexham and all the documentation said Hexham but it is in Acomb which is 4 miles from Hexham.

Friendly staff but that’s the only Positive unfortunately. One night was enough! Arguing and carrying ons in pub until midnight even though quiet time is 10pm til 7am. Room and bathroom was tiny dirty and in need of serious updating and repair. Clearly no investment in the business. Checked out and saw room opposite was occupied by someone who had just crashed there door held open by a shoe and a pair of discarded undies on the floor. Pretty unpleasant stay really. I would suggest that recent reviews on Booking etc are fabricated. My advice would be to find somewhere better in Hexam

Excellent food (the apple crumble is divine) and great rooms, the couple are friendly and wonderful hosts. Close to a bunch of great heritage sites. The local area is beautiful and great for hiking. Also, nice view of sheep being fed as you eat breakfast. 10/10, would stay again.

What an amazing find! Booked as accommodation for a college trip - exceeded all my expectations in every way. Excellent rooms, very clean, home cooked meals, comfy place to relax at the end of the day and the best weekend of sleep I’ve had in a long time. We will be returning! Thank you so much for a wonderful weekend!

Room was reasonably clean and very warm. Quite noisy with the bar downstairs and bed was rather lumpy. Only one pillow. Very difficult to fill the kettle from the tiny sink. Very handy having the microwave and fridge.

Filthy and expensive. Complained about the filth but told to pay up or get out. Had no choice but to stay as we were on a walking trip and had no transport. Not actually in Hexham either. No food available and milk in fridge was off as were some of the packaged “goods” in the room. Disgusting and quite intimidating.

Nice room, pub looked a bit run down from the outside but fine inside and the locals were friendly.

Absolutely brilliant. A hidden gem. We wanted somewhere to stay to celebrate our wedding anniversary and happened upon the chalets at Ninebanks YHA. It was absolutely lovely. It was very clean, had a self-contained kitchenette area, wood burner and bathroom. It was very quiet and private, away from the main hostel. The hostel is rural, surrounded by fields and really well-maintained. We will definitely be back.

The beds were unmade when we arrived. The member of staff was a bit odd when we asked for the beds to be made. The amenities and facilities were very poor for the cost of the room and we were quite disappointed
