Hilton Grand Vacations Club the Grand Islander Waikiki Honolulu

We stayed in a 1-bedroom mountain view with two doubles suite. We had to leave early due to a family emergency, but our disappointment with the suite also factored heavily into our decision to end our vacation three days early. Here are the pros and cons that we discovered during our stay. The pros are that it was a spacious room with a full kitchen and washer and dryer. This made it super convenient! They have new and high quality kitchen appliances such as Bosch, GE, etc. Throughout the suite, there are plentiful drawers and closet space for clothes. The shower has spacious shelves where you can keep your shower accessories handy. The couch is comfortable, and there's ample seating around the kitchen bar and in the living room area. There are large, flat screen TVs in the living room and bedroom. There is also a nice balcony with scenic views - even with a mountain view room. Once you find the right hotel and arrive at the check-in desk, the staff are welcoming and helpful. The doorperson here (Maeo, I think) was exceptionally personable, knowledgeable, and helpful with alternatives to the excessively expensive and distant Hilton parking garage. This property has a lot of amenities including access to four different pools and many activities. The location is the primary reason why we selected it because it's part of Hilton Hawaiian Village and easy to walk to Waikiki Beach, ABC stores, restaurants, other shops, etc. The cons are that the rates are exorbitant even for a non-ocean view room and no Hilton resort parking. Our suite was $460.69/night after factoring in all the fees and taxes, including a $47.18/night resort fee plus tax. Also, we had to leave early due to an emergency and were charged a $117.96 for the early departure fee and its tax. We knew about the $100 but didn't realize this is also taxed. Also, we were mistakenly charged an additional $141.54 on our original checkout date as they continued to charge us for the resort fee and tax even after we'd checked out early! We called and got this corrected. I visited the Hilton website several times prior to our stay and there's a lack of detailed directions there. Upon our arrival in Honolulu around 11pm, it was super frustrating to locate our property! We circled around three times before finally seeing the hidden driveway leading to the hotel entrance. This driveway is poorly marked, hidden, and narrow - especially at night! We never did look for the Hilton parking garage and ended up parking elsewhere. The garage for Hilton Hawaiian Village is far away at the opposite end of the property, and it's $69/night ($72.50/night with tax). We knew this in advance, but were grateful that the doorperson gave us much better parking options including parking at the Hale Koa parking garage, which belongs to the military hotel adjacent to Grand Islander, and is just across the street. Ok for a family vacation but packed to the gills with people. Pools had birds and pigeons in them and not very clean. Hot tubs were packed with kids. Trying to eat was difficult due to the crowds. However the most annoying thing was the expensive beach chair and umbrella rentals per day on top of the 40 dollar per day resort fee per day. The best thing about this hotel village is the music in the evening at the tapas bar. Talented musicians - too bad the food here was from a cafeteria.

Exactly what I expected great service

Wow! The hotel and the suite was beautiful. I am a club owner and I feel like it's worth it. I had never been to Oahu Hawaii before. The staff were friendly and helpful. It was quiet and luxurious. The bidet was wonderful and an unexpected luxury! The kitchen was spacious and the appliance were new and nice. I loved I had a washer and dryer that way I packed clean clothes going back home. Loved my view of the ocean although it was a partial view it was not that obstructed.

This location is great, close to everything, lots of shopping and restaurants on site but lots of other options in walking distance Some things to note Parking onsite is $65/ night we parked across the street for much cheaper The Grand Islander is not well marked, after traveling all day we arrived at 11:30pm, tired and hungry, we found it very frustrating to find the location Overall we still had a great time
