Best Hotels near St Peter＇s Church, Hope, Hope

The following is the copy of an email sent a week ago to Britannia hotels main email address. To date, I have received no response but neither did I expect one. - I'd like to tell you of our experience of staying at the Palace Hotel, Buxton. 13th and 14th September, 2022. On arrival at the hotel one cannot fail to be impressed by this fine old building with fitting décor in the entrance lobby and communal area. Unfortunately, this is where the impressiveness ends. Check in – 3 or 4 stations at the reception desk, only 1 manned. Thankfully we were 2nd in line and on glancing behind us when it was our turn saw about 30 people behind us queuing out of the glass doors and back to the revolving door. No welcome from the receptionist and I was quite surprised that when I asked about using my card for charges to our room for wine etc. was told that you pay as you go. Not quite what you would expect from a 4 star hotel. Booked a table for dinner – we were booking in at 4 pm but the earliest option for a table was 8.30 pm. Our Room – we had booked an executive twin room and whilst the room was spacious it lacked character and was in fact quite sp**** . We understood that there was no room service but assumed this would be for change of towels, little did we know that there would be no emptying of bin or replenishment of tea/coffee/milk and sugar. No guest information folder in the room, which we would expect to find. Dining – dinner. 4 staff ( I won't give them the title of waiter/waitress/hostess as it would be doing a disservice to those who do this role properly) at the desk at the front of the restaurant and given a menu and taken to a table. We were given to understand that meals were buffet style but the comment from the staff member who had taken us to our table who told us it was self service we found her description was more realistic. In actual fact for the help that was given throughout our stay you might as well have trays situated at the front because the service is more akin to a poorly run motorway service station. That again is giving a disservice as there is a far better selection of food on offer there. We asked for wine menu and were told it was in the menu folder, it wasn't. The staff member said she'd get one, took the menu away and neither were seen again. We opted for soup which we had to help ourselves to from an electric soup tureen, after we asked what it was. After one mouthful, found it was lukewarm so took it back to another staff member who took the soup bowls from me saying she'd tell chef. Well, that helped a lot didn't it as neither of these were seen again either! We had to have the pate or salad as these were the only other things on offer as a starter. Back up to the hot cupboards for our main course – on offer, 1 choice of roast - turkey, fish in sauce which looked as though that had been there for the whole of the service time and a sweet potato curry. Having stayed at this place sooo many times when travelling for work (must be 50+ times over the years!) I thought time for a review! In addition to this being OUTSTANDING VALUE and handily placed on the M62, I can't recommend the place and the staff enough. I've stayed at all the Days Inns in the UK and this is amongst my favourites. I was (and usually am) checked in by Suri who's helpful & cheerful but the whole team's great. Whilst the Days Inns (and Ramadas) in the UK are fairly basic though, my main reason for staying at them is for the Wyndham Rewards programme .... the points mount up quickly and often fund our family holidays abroad to stay in far more luxurious settings! The rewards programme is generous if you often stay away / on the road

I was really looking forward to staying here, A grand old style station hotel that no doubt would be a bit faded which is why its only a 3 star hotel . I was wrong! Its a grand old style station hotel. The public rooms are all amazing Victoriana style & elegant. I was pleased that my tall room was comfortable & the facilities were just fine. I was worried that the free parking (with good security) might be full but there were easily enough places Breakfast was good on both days particularly if you like a cooked breakfast Good central location for easy access into & out of town & for the city centre (Media Museum currently closed for a big upgrade). Note that if you are driving you may find that if your sat nav is not up to date you may have a couple of false instructions & I think that an 18 month long set of roadworks is about to start in the centre of the city. Not an obvious large number of nearby restaurant choices but I thoroughly recommend the Bistro Polish Food just a couple of minutes away- not a big menu choice but fresh authentic food prepared well and at a good price

This place is worth the 5/5. The accommodation was very sweet, clean and comfortable and the surroundings very beautiful. Our dog loved the river in the grounds with the direct access! The breakfast was surgery with a really good menu, my partner is vegan and asked for the cooked breakfast without meat or eggs and the chef offered vegan sausage and bacon, what a treat! The staff are really great and friendly. We arrived very late and we were greeted by a lovely young man who took us to our shepherds hut by torch and was so helpful even getting us a drink such amazing service. The breakfast team were lovely and attentive. We also had a light lunch before we set off and the waiter Karim was so polite and kind. We were really impressed by everything that the Plough Inn provided, if I could over mark it I would. We have been coming to Sheffield every weekend for 10 weeks now and this really was the best place that we have stayed so I felt that I really wanted to congratulate the whole team. Thank you and hope we can come again although I think you are always booked up!

Poorly stocked, hard towels, tired rooms, strange picture hanging in the room, rock hard bed, pillows falling apart, breakfast poor, 15 mins for poached eggs, card for door didn’t work, car park exit was blocked by linen truck for 20 mins - will not be returning or be recommending !!

Like all other easy hotels, there are no desks, no chairs inside the room. But I can’t complain about a room at this price. I simply had food by the window I sat down on the floor. The room was clean enough. It is strategically located. It’s only roughly a 10 minute easy walk (just walk straight down the road!) from the coach and the train station. I thought they would charge for luggage storage, but they didn’t! Gave me a tag right away. Such a lovely reception!

Everything is nice. But I just worry about the young lady at the reception. She seems has some problems with smiling, I found she couldn’t smile at us, she seems can only smile at those white people. She seems also has a problem with her ear that she couldn’t hear my room number correctly since the card couldn’t open the door and it needed to be fixed. Well, Sheffield is a nice city any way.
