This place is listed as 3.5 stars on various booking sites and has a 5 star TripAdvisor. I can’t speak to social media but here are the objective facts of my stay: PROS - Small, family run property with attentive customer service - Close to many restaurants, shopping and the Ilford rail station CONS - Shabby, run-down property that was never a 3.5 star hotel even on its newest day - Gritty neighborhood - Many things in poor repair eg marked and chipping paint on the walls, shower fixtures not working / completely coming off the wall, toilet takes multiple flushes to clear everything - Came back from a day at work to find cleaning supplies and a dirty rag sitting in the middle of my floor - I got a freezing cold shower two days in a row, even though I tested the hot water after my first cold shower (I think they may have been switching off the hw heater to save money). I told the receptionist I would be checking out if I got another cold shower and he moved me rooms - to another room with a broken shower fixture - To be fair, they made an effort to fix the disrepair , but is it ok to rely on your guest to come up with a to do list for your basic room maintenance? Bottom line: I feel for small hotels trying to survive the pandemic. However, it is wrong for booking sites to have a 2 star hotel listed as 3.5 stars and a TripAdvisor rating that seems really dubious at best. Avoid this property and stay in East London near Liverpool Street Station.
